Has anyone been watching this series? Tony Robinson presenting a series about the effect of varios german bombs on a test site with a mocked up period terraced street... Quite fasinating stuff, huge explosions made now, cut with information about them bombs them selves, moving real life accounts from people who experienced the bombing first hand and archive footage. Interesting stuff and the shots of the bombs being set off in this mocked up street make it seem all very real!
More than likely available on 4od, I recomend it more than just plonking it in my balerdash and piffle thread!

Yes I have seen a few of them I watch on 4+1 after Flash Forward.

My Mum's parents house still had cracks in the upstairs parts of the house caused during the war, I saw them when I was a child. Parts of Belfast were very heavily bombed and areas near where the house was were destroyed by German bombs. However this period of bombing was short lived unlike London and other parts of the mainland.

I am reading a brilliant book at the minute Fatherland by Robert Harris set in 1963 in Berlin its a detective story featuring the murders of high ranking Nazis. Yes you read right, in this book Germany won the War in Europe and an uneasy peace exists between the Reich and America (Kennedy is mentioned as being about to visit Hitler in Berlin on a peace and harmony visit). The detective is fighting to solve the mystery and keep himself alive as he has discovered things he should not have and the Gestapo are breathing down his neck anyway the reason I mention this is that in the book the Germans send a V3 rocket (never got further than experiments at Penimunder, thank God) to New York to stop the Americans from dropping a nuke on them. The cold war exists between the Americans and the Germans, not Russia which does not exist anymore in this book. Brilliant stuff alternative history is fun.

Must be on plus one now neil...my first reaction was I can't belive this happend in living memory, my second that to a certain extent similar is happening now in parts of the world, certainly makes you think!

Unfortunately, it's more often stupidity, ignorance, and inaction that cause these things. For every action of evil intent, they are many that are done 'with the best intentions' that result in just as awful consequences.
