Finally got my hands on one of these after waiting 14 months for it to receive Apple certification and shipping to UK.
I think I may be one of the first in the UK to try it out, thanks to Jordan Acoustics.
This is my first bit of McIntosh kit so the sound takes a while to appreciate.
My main reason for wanting to try this is 1) made for I devices and 2) a more organic sound when listening through my Sennheiser HD800 phones.
I’m pleased to say that it works very well when streaming Tidal through my iPhone X and also using 8player pro to send my ripped collection from Naim Unitiserve.
The sound has opened out more after 10 hours use and is now very enjoyable even after a few hours listening.
It does seem to control the HD800 excesses so they are a good match.
Battery life is around the stated 6 hours use. I prefer the setting without their cross feed circuitry on but that might be because I am more used to a bright and detailed sound. My ears might retune to this sound so will try it again after further listening.
Haven’t tried the Bluetooth connection yet but it does have AptX.
The one thing that is a niggle is the volume control. You slide your finger round a silver disc on the glass front to change volume. It would be useful to light the ring when changing volume to indicate the current level. Still, at least the volume resets to zero when turned off so no danger of high level damage when turned back on.
An interesting and good portable DAC and true MFI means I will be keeping it.
