Apologies if this breaks any rules and please either move or delete if needed .
If anyone on this forum is not a member of the HiFI Wigwam and do not read the threads there the following has just been posted.
I had a room at this Show Last Year for the first time and the weekend is not only great fun but a good place to meet people who are all interested in music and audio . I saw equipment and heard equipment I had only previously read about . I was also introduced to a number of artists I had not heard before .

I'm sure we have members here that are members everywhere else so it can be copied and passed on. We intend to give each forum two rooms which are next to each other where they can attract and show off their systems so please make sure this is passed on. The show is nearly full so please make sure this happens quickly. "

Done the Scalford hall show 4 times as an exhibiter , thats enough for me :(

Do you know have to pay for the honour of exhibiting at the Wam show? I know that last year exhibitors were required to book a room for the night.
Last year snow stopped me attending for the first time since its inception - hopefully this year will be different.
Might it be a good idea to mention where and when it is, or a link to where that info can be found?

I think the answer is yes you need to book the room that you exhibite in and have the use of to sleep in , also includes breakfast
I had no problem paying this , its all part of going away for the weekend, comunity spirit and all that :)

I have no problem with the concept of community spirit but it doesn’t usually apply to commercial concerns - and the Wam is entirely a commercial concern these days.

If everything was free , the income from traders on the day would not cover the running costs so the event woud not happen
over 100 people are willing to support the event as I have done in the past :)

I’ve not only attended every one but last years, I’ve also exhibited and helped friends exhibit at it too - I don’t think I can be said to be lacking in community spirit when it comes to the Wam show. It’s not the ‘by enthusiasts for enthusiasts’ event it once was though - now it’s people charitably supporting a business.

I mean the exhibiters and attendees are not there because they have to be or feel they should be even though they've got better things they could be doing. Sure it could be done on a non-profit basis but that require someone getting off their arse and organising it ( a lot of work to do an event that size) for no other reason than they want to. Nobody's stopping anyone from doing that.

Yes, that is precisely how I see it. However, normally a company will make something people want to buy and then sell it to them - not make customers make it and pay for it themselves and then sell it to their mates....
As it happens, I’ve got a great idea for a business too and it involves a subject you are really keen on. All I need is for you to provide all the finance and the content for free, and you won’t mind if I pocket the profit will you?

Exhibited three times and visited at other times. When James sold the forum and the new man took over and runs it as a business, fair enough he had to buy the forum, it lost its charm. Going to Scalford since has meant parking in the town at the mercy of the thieves and doing park and ride. Paying for a room whether you want to stay or not. Good luck with all of that. I haven't visited the wam for years, are the struggling to fill the rooms this year, usually the rooms would all be taken before Christmas.
I recall the AoS 'Cheap as chips' room a few years back being one of the most interesting visits of the day. It sounded too bloody good !

Yeah mate, that room was legendary... Taught a few 'badge snobs' [who think that a system can only be any good if you chuck lots of money at it] a thing or two, about a thing or two!:eyebrows:;)

Do you remember this one, when I took my Tannoys down to Scalford [the one and ONLY time I'll ever do something like that:nono:], along with the majority of the rest of my system, and a couple of Nick (Beechwoods) tape machines and Steve Toy's Bel Canto CDP, plus Quadraspire Reference 'bog seat' acrylic equipment supports:

Observe the attention to detail, in terms of mains treatment/filters [to combat the effect of shit hotel mains], properly designed equipment supports, cables, etc. We wowed audiences there with all the systems we demonstrated, simply because we did it *right*, by using top-notch gear, all of which was properly set-up!:)

Lol... All the records and CDs (I'd brought 100s of them down, so we could play a wide range of music), were stored at the other end of the room.
That was arguably the best sounding demo we did. We'd been up to 2am that morning, optimising the sound (especially in respect of speaker positioning, to get the bass right) - and it paid off. The other exhibitors nearby, especially a Chinese fellow, who was a regular on the Wam (forget his name now), spent most of their time in our room, listening to our system!

Can't remember what that box was for. It could've been mains cables or Steve's MusicWorks mains block. I'd don't wear slippers, just a little black négligée and a cheeky smile.

Cheers. mate. I hope you do, but it won't be mine. I've given up exhibiting at shows now. Way too much work and hassle, to do it properly, especially when you've done it a few times already and worn out the novelty factor!
And, *especially* when you've got speakers that size and weight to lug about!! I had to hire a van, the time we demoed the Lockwood Majors, and what a ball-ache of a journey that was, driving at 50mph, tops, bumping up and down the place, from Wrexham to Melton Mowbray and back...:eek:
But not as much of a ball-ache as it was lugging the speakers down the (very) narrow stairs, in my old house, from my listening room ["broom cupboard":D] and into the van, then doing the same thing again on the way back, at the end of the day when you're knackered, not including also having to rebuild the rest of your system from scratch...:doh::rolleyes::nono:
So, never again! However, I hope you enjoy the day:cool:

I do seem to remember it was going to change, something to do with Scalford not wanting it there. I'm kind of indifferent to it. I was lucky to have been at the first one and several others afterwards when it had a different atmosphere, not that the good people of the wam have changed that, it's more the involvement of dealers and the ownership.

Doesnt help that It's so easy to knock the tonearm / cartridge out of sweetspot but a right PITA to find it back again in my experience :rolleyes:

Try carring a John Wood KT88 intergrated amp up the stairs from the car park :eek: and then spend the rest of the weekend knowing you have to do it again :eek::eek:

Yes Marco it was a good one but not the only system with a good sound qualiy you took there. And to make life easier now the hotel at Keggie has of all things a lift!!. Get the stuff from the car/van to the lift and then you can use the lift to do the hard work. And the car park is next to the hotel for exhibitors and visitors.
Not only that but having to carry people in wheelchairs to the top floors at Scalford was unacceptable. And hopefully, the skies are now empty of snow.
There will be the usual enthusiasts' rooms in the hotel and a few record sellers/smaller guys in there. Plus a few extras and a nice surprise of which details will be announced later.
Everything is being done to keep the unique nature of the show and offer people a chance to hear well put together systems shown by people who care. This is also a chance for AoS to show what they can do and whether there is still that magic they have shown in the past. Oh and the suitcase challenge. Go on, it will be fun.
And Peter has told me if I sell a million rooms he will give me 4 green shield stamps.
And as always, if anyone wants to make a small fortune from a show like this....er.....start with a large fortune first.

Lol... Indeed. Glad you've sorted out the major problems there was at Scalford, particularly in the latter stages, during the era of the (infamous) Park & Ride system, which is what completely turned me off attending as a visitor, never mind exhibiting....:rolleyes:
Having a secure car park right next to the hotel (just like it is at Cranage Hall), for me is vital, as most folk just want to rock up and walk straight into the show, with no hassles, and crucially for me, be able to conveniently return to their car at any point during the show, especially to leave any items purchased, especially bags of LPs!:eyebrows:
So I may pop along as a visitor, especially as it's within a reasonable driving distance of where I live. However, my days of exhibiting at hi-fi shows are over, certainly in terms of using my own system. I would consider sharing a room with someone else, and possibly donating some smaller, easily transportable, pieces of equipment to put into a system.

If was possible to demo my car audio system, to potential customers who may be interested in that sort of thing, and perhaps get Sean some business, then I may be interested in that. He would come along, too. However, the car would need to be parked somewhere prominently, near the hotel entrance, to facilitate that.
I know that a professional car audio installation company demonstrated their wares at Cranage Hall, with considerable success, so it's one to think about. Anyway, you can let me know, and if it's possible what costs would be involved:cool:

Lol, nah... I've been shopping umpteen times, Patrick, since it's been installed, over 2 months ago now, and there have been no issues.
The cone material of the subwoofer is made from a very hard and rigid plastic, which is well-recessed into its aperture. I've had shopping bags, full of bottles, etc, sat right on top of the cone in transit, and it's been fine, even whilst listening to music rather loudly!:eyebrows:
And besides, the groceries usually go on the back seat:)

The Wam show is an embarrassing shadow of its former self. The current owners have taken an enthusiasts event and bastardasied it into a money making scheme for themselves. The exhibitors, the actual enthusiasts, are absolute stars but the organisers are taking advantage of their enthusiasm. I asked a couple of questions on the Wam and all I get back are insults and slurs - pathetic. Anybody can just join the Wam and apply to exhibit so this ‘open invitation’ is no more than an attempt to make up the numbers (this looks likely to be the smallest Wam show since its inception) and allow banned members in through the back door.
Bear in mind that a couple of years ago my enthusiastic comments were quoted in an advertisement for the Wam show and I have always been a great supporter of it. However, the current management and moderation team (I use that term loosely) seem very different to previous iterations.

And my trusty (Audiocom-modified) Sony DAS-R1 [featuring the renowned double-crown TDA1541s], still going strong in my system today, some 11 years later!!

Interesting looking back at the systems we demo'd at Scalford, when my Techy was still in the early days of being 'pimped', still with its stock platter and KAB PSU...

I'm buzzing for the Wam show. Like Crannage it's a great day out.
Got to say as a visitor I preferred Scalford, apart from the Park and Ride. I just liked the way you could get lost in the place and there seemed to be rooms than you couldn't even find. Also there were some massive rooms with crazy systems in them.
Kegworth is a lot more uniformly laid out, and with smaller rooms, but at the end of the day it's still a great day. And I think exhibitors find Kegworth much easier.
Let's hope the weather is better than last year!

Big systems are back this year!!
I will be taking my full system and letting the Ushers of their leash in 1 of 3 big spaces allocated for the big systems.
My speakers only get to play in a 12 x 14 room at home so will be fun to see how they will sound when given a 25 x 44 space, atleast they won't pressurise the room when I turn the wick up.
