Hi all,

I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Yamaha and I'm a fan of (restoring) vintage Japanese audio gear. Mostly Yamaha, Sony, Kenwood and Micro Seiki. I live in the Netherlands near Amsterdam and I'm 34 years old. I really like the process of sourcing desired gear in foreign countries (mostly Japan and Germany), restore them in order to meet modern standards and to make them minty again.

My current main setup:


Kenwood L-1000C preamp.
Yamaha B-2 V-FET power amp.
Sony APM-66ES MKII speakers.
Arcam irDac with separate linear PSU for audio streaming.
Yamaha T-2 tuner.


I recently sold my Micro Seiki DDX-1000 turntable and I kept the Micro Seiki MA-505L tonearm. I'm now in the process of 'building' a new turntable. I already have a Sony TTS-6000 direct drive unit on it's way and I was able to source an original 'Resinamic Sound' plinth. I'm currently designing a brass tonearm base to be able to fit any arm to the base like the MA-505L arm. The plinth is glossy black and will be repainted to a matte grey color. The TTS-6000 will be rebuilt. I will be using a Denon DL-304 MKII cart which has about 20 hours on it.

Second setup:


Yamaha CA-2000 integrated amp.
Sony APM-22ES speakers.
Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 for audio streaming.
Yamaha CT-1000 tuner.


Sitting on the shelf, waiting for restoration: a Sony TA-N7 / TA-E7 combo with which I hope to start soon.

I mainly listen to 60's, 70's and 80's classic rock, but I'm also a fan of 80's trash metal and more recent metal / mathcore.

I think that's about it :)

Yes, the NS-1000M's did sound great with the B-2, but in the end the APM-66ES MKII won! It was a tough decision (couldn't keep both due to limited space), but the APM's do sound a bit better. Tighter, faster and more bass, better L and R imaging / separation and a little less shrillness in the highs.
