Gents,
have a look at this:
http://denon.jp/products2/dp1300mk2.html

Has this TT the same engine assembly of the SL 1200, or what?

If you mean the small photo of the motor coil and bearing assembly, it does look familiar. Do you think it's built for Denon by Technics?

Nice looking deck.

Oh well... I really don't know if Denon made a thing like that, but it seems like seeing the magnet and the coils of the SL 1200.
I read about this TT being very good, and as long as I know is the only DD budget TT other than the SL 1200 currently on the market
Now I'm just thinking about the words of Marco, talking about the top-of-class DD engine of the SL 1200. If Denon is using that engine, than Marco is right.

BTW if you take a closer look to the tonearm... it seems to be the tonearm of... ?

If it is the Techie motor (and it does appear to be so), then I think Hayden labs should consider bringing a few over to trial...

sorry, only for jap market. It should cost about 1500 € (1300 GBP). I read it can be found as direct import in USA

No it isn't the Technics motor or any other Technics parts. Its made by the company who also do the Stanton DD. Han Pin? or something like that.

Sorry, guys....

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.... I've seen those Denon's before and they do nothing for me whatsoever.

The arm looks really cheap (about as good as a stock Techy arm, at best) and the 'orangy' plastic looking wood and the whole finish of it is a bit blingy - nope not my thing at all.

There are some very nice Denon Direct-drive T/Ts around, but IMO that's not one of them.

Give me an SL-1210MK5G or a Pioneer PL-71 any day!

Marco.

I'm with you marco... Maybe it's just the photos but as you say it looks really plasticy! Not my bad neither!

If you want a good direct drive TT and it's neither a Technics or an EMT, then there is only one Denon to go for: the Denon DP-100M.

Just get rid of the arm and fit something decent!

Here said that arms come from Technics (read side notes):

But I was talking about currently marketed DD TT, for home HI-FI use, not vintage or DJs. My surprise was about DENON using Technics parts, that should be a proof of the quality of the SL 1200 project.

Of course my choice is for the M5G, too (I own it... :eyebrows: )

 you're right, tonearms is eastetichally the same... so could be the engine. I guess if this TT could be a good starting point for some DYI project, cheaper than the SL 1200...

I understand that the bearing which, unlike the Technics, is an integral part of the motor, is of poor quality.

I suspect that that it does not use Technics parts but has been designed to look like it uses Technics parts to give it credibility - very cynical! If you look at it's specs they are much inferior to the SL-1200 MK2.

The turntable in question is marketed in the U.S. as a DP-550M I believe.

I don't know of anyone who would buy one ahead of a Technics.

The vintage Denon's 59/60/75/80 series are the most sought after.
