I'm in the process of upgrading, AGAIN! I currently have a 2nd hand Quadrapsire rack which does duties for the Garrard 301. I wondered if Birchply is considered a better substitute than MDF. I'm trying to dampen down any vibration in the equipment rack as I have two big valve based components. The 301 is pretty well protected but I figured I could go one better. I have some 18mm birchply in the garage and wondered if it would be worthwhile replacing the Quadraspire racks with the Birchply, any thoughts?

Have you thought about placing the birchply on top with something like sorbathane between the MDF and birchply. I use this method except I'm using a bamboo board.

I would have thought any particle board would be less resonant than ply, like Antonio above though I too use bamboo but isolated by half squash balls.

I also use the half squash balls as feet on my DAC and phono stage.

Well the best cheap wood to use for damping is Bamboo, see this website https://qualia.webs.com/newdampingfactors.htm I'm in the middle of trying to remove resonance from my Garrard 301, hence the original thread title. I've also started to make my own still points and having a play with some inflatable tyres, total outlay, about £20. Probably going to see no difference whatsoever, but I'm happy to have a small punt.

These are very effective, without changing your shelf. Just place under your equipment feet. I use them under my valve amp and cd player.

Also great to use under speaker spikes to reduce speaker movement and vibration.

Thanks Dave, I'll have a play with mi' rubber tyres before I commit more funds to experimentation.
