Right now I don’t have any. I never thought I’d be saying that, but everything I have is miles better than I’ve had before. Time to quit whilst I’m ahead or else I will have some big regrets to come.

Mike New's bearing is one thing, his ETP is as rare as hens teeth these days

Non, rien de rien
Non je ne regrette rien

OK - maybe selling my Revox G36 reel-to-reel tape machine, and perhaps not buying a Magnum Dynalab tuner, when one came up for sale recently.

Oh, and passing over on a Decca 'Professional' arm with Decca Mk. III head going for a ridiculously low asking price.

The Al/Cu platter is even rarer (and to my ears sounds better) :ner:

Letting Jonathan Billington drop his MFA Reference MM Phono off for a demo after I mentioned to him I was interested in hearing an LCR topology PS.
Then being stupid enough to actual put it in my system and switch it on.

Regrets?
I can't say I'm beating myself up about anything.

Am I on the lookout for gear I've owned before? (That sounds like a decent definition of "regret").
Nope.

Onwards! :)

Selling my mint, boxed EMI EPU-100 arm complete with both pick-up heads.

The fact that grandad and I couldn’t muster £30 between us at the car boot sale when I was about 14, for the “old record player arm” that I recognised as a very early 12” round gimbal SME 3012 with Ortofon SPU attached to it.

Selling my first pair of Leak 2075s

Not buying a Sony PS-8750 for £130.

Yes! Selling my entire system last year because I was skint at the time... what an idiot! Luxman, Harbeth combo that I’m unlikely to ever own again. Haven’t listened to much music since. Gutted.

There's not much I'd have again of all the gear that's passed through my hands and that's an awful lot of equipment.

I should have hung onto the Decca London Export Grey, that was the best sounding all round Decca cartridge I've used.

And I should have kept the tiny Aureavox Arcana 82 valve monoblocks, they were great little things.

I still have a soft spot for Tannoy Eatons, shame I sold the last pair.

Like old girlfriends, enjoyed them and moved on. Now settled in the main, with the odd dabble. Mrs P has stayed the course and couldn't afford to dabble in that area.

Yep, it was one of the best in its day and probably better than a lot of amps around today tube or not, unless you are going to spend thousands.

Gutted. What are you using now? If there's one thing that's surprised me it's how close you can get to high end gear with low outlay (in musicality terms more than smoothness, resolution etc). Sometimes it's a psychological block that prevents you giving it a chance. Using a (superficially) second rate system for background music rather than critical listening for a while can help you get used to it.

Purchased a WHEST Two.2 phonostage. Awful, couldn’t wait to move it on which I have now. Teach me to buy unheard and on recommendation. Have now installed a PS Audio NuWave Phono Converter which I tried on home demo.

They were excellent.
They just disapeared amidst tne music.

I used them in a room 4.5 x 4.5.

I would love another sorted pair.

Definately reccomended.

If anyone has them, please hand them back! :-)

You are not the first to report being disappointed with the Whest phonostages. Shame as they re not cheap even if they are well built. But if they don't sound good ............

Not doing an MA straight after my BA when I would have a) got a full student grant and b) had my fees paid. OTOH, I was fed up with studying at that point, so probably would have chucked it in halfway through.

Hifi-wise; none, really. I've tried most of the stuff I wanted to try, and am happy with what I've currently got. Could probably do with selling my excess bit and bobs though.

He didn't keep a check on the valves, despite being told to check them and keep an eye on the valve life counter + he put it a cabinet with no ventilation. Fucked it so badly it needs to go back to T+A, he won't do it, nor will he allow me to buy it back to get it fixed.

I regret thinking I wanted to get back into Linn, a Majik, LK140 & Karik later I realise it wasn't for me anymore. Good solid sound but not what I like now. I can see why it's called flat earth kit.

Having said that, we've got a set up of a Rega deck, Majik amp and beefy B&W standmounters at my other half's house and its always a pleasure to listen to.

I quite like the Linn Karik. Has a tidy kind of sound about it. But it's also a tad dry.

It's a good player, would hold its own in a system. If I hadn't had something else planned I'd have hung on to it.

Having the family background I did. Abusive father destroying my self belief and confidence in my ability.

Hence no degree - self doubt - should have had a PhD and had my own major player speaker company by 30.
But my background formative years made me so rebellious that I joined the hippy rebellion, at least in spirit in my own way.

'Corrupt capitalism', 'Sick society' etc, and sacked twice from Gov't depts. for exposing corruption, unfortunately to the corrupt.

Still you've made it this far and you're still breathing, what else matters? - that's what I tell myself anyway.
