Hi All,
I have bought vinyl all my life and have gone through many pieces of kit. As soon as the kids were old enough they quickly found the tweeter buttons on my speakers and permanently modified them. So, after many years in the hi fi wilderness, I have finally put my Bose speakers in the loft !!(no tweeters to press)
Today I icked up a pair of Kef 104.2 and an Audiolab 8000a amp. The contrast between my old set up and this is like night and day. Not quite sure what I am expressing but it makes me love music all over again, and this is what it’s allabout?!!
Anyhow, collected from a dealer and the speakers have had new foam/doughnuts but not crosssovers and the Audiolab amp was compared with a Sony ta f630 esd and come out well on top.
Any notes on this selection are welcome.

Kefs will be decent speakers. I like kefs

Hi All, you may be able to help me here. My full set up is geared towards DJ ing. Two technics 1210 mk3, a Vestax pcv 275 mixer ( which acts as a pre amp )and an Audiolab 8000a integrated amp. My thoughts now are that as the Audiolab can’t work as a power amp I would like to change it for a dedicated power amp as it seems wrong to have both the mixer and the amp working as pre amps. The amp owes me £170 so was wandering what recommendations you could offer as a suitable replacement around this budget. I do enjoy the clarity of the Audiolab which seems to suit the Kefs.
Any advice would be greatly received.

Does the audiolab not have pre out and power in sockets at the back?

I've had 3 pairs of the 104/2s in the past some I preferred to others, I wonder if the crossovers had aged differently. My favourites had brass sockets single in a wire configuration, but then so did another pair I didn't like as much. The earliest ones had plastic sockets while the later ones were biwire (and had foam surrounds on the internal woofers as well as the doughnuts).

Welcome to AoS Andrew,

The only KEF speakers I have spent any time with were the original 104ab. It was some thirty five years ago, but from memory they were a fine sounding design.
