True. Had a Marathon the other day and if you compress the wrapper you can see it isn't that much bigger now than the fun size.
I like Sainsbury's taste the difference Belgian milk chocolate bars. Proper chocolate that is, loads of cocoa in it. Failing that I'll have a Galaxy bar.

Of the generally available bars I would go for a DARK chocolate coated Bounty. The milk coated is most inferior.
Topic was good when it was a decent size and there were plenty nuts in. Flake is good too

Since childhood it's been Cadbury's Dairy Milk Buttons and now they do big buttons for adults.....result!
Always wanted to try Hershey bars as a kid, it's American, must be great! What a disappointment. Bet they helped a few Yanks loosen a few British bodices when they were stationed here during the war though.

I don't suppose anyone knows why the name was changed from Marathon to Snickers? Is marathon perhaps an offensive word in some obscure language?
I was once told that certain car names were changed because of language issues - for example the Toyota MR2 apparently had a different name in France as MR2 sounded like the French word for shit. And the Vauxhall Nova was always called the Corsa in Europe because Nova loosely translated to "Doesn't Go" in some languages.
And while we're at it, who decided we couldn't say "Nestle's" anymore, and had to start pronouncing it "Nest-lay"? Probably the banana-straightening Sausage Police.

Totally agree, and I resist all attempts to force me to change. There have in recent years been attempts to change pronunciation of Lidl to "Leedle", and Hyundai to "Yunday" I'm not havin that either.
As a nation we're too bloody soft, putting up with all this. Imagine how the Americans would take it if we attempted to re-brand Hershey as "Cack-bar"? There would be blood.
Just goes to show how far we have fallen. It wouldn't have happened when we had the empire. [emoji38]

Lidl or Aldi, dude. It's a German brand. German chocolate, in my experience, is amongst the best in the world. I also love their Milka brand of chocolate bars. This stuff is simply SCRUMPTIOUS:

We make up a 'Christmas plate' (a vintage hand-pained ceramic plate, in the shape of a Christmas tree), filled with all sorts of lovely chocs, and put it on the coffee table for ourselves and guests to enjoy. I'll take a pic and post it later.
The Bergs are awesome when you allow them to melt in your mouth for bit, before biting into them and releasing the lovely warm liqueur - yummy!!

That's how it's *actually* pronounced by Germans, as it's a German name: the 'i' is pronounced as an 'e' - standard stuff with many European languages.
However, would I say it that way here? No, because it's inappropriate. Much the same as I wouldn't call Rome, 'Roma' or Paris, 'Paree'. However, if I was in Germany I'd certainly use the aforementioned pronunciation of 'Lidl', especially if I wanted to be understood...;)

Yes, but that's simply the British way of pronouncing it. If you heard a German person saying it, it would sound like 'Leedle'. Yeah, the centre isle in Lidl (or Aldi) is great, and most of it isn't tat either. Their hand tools are great quality, as are many of their electrical items. I use one of their milk frothers everyday, which I've had now for over a year, and cost me a tenner!
There's also plenty more to love about Lidl or Aldi, as a lot of their food products are top notch and considerably cheaper than those of the bigger supposedly 'better' supermarkets. We do 80% of our shopping there, and you know what my standards are like for food, so that should say it all!;)

No, it originated in Switzerland, but is now made all over Europe. Chocolate, like anything else, is down to personal taste. I love the creaminess of Milka. However, I'd largely agree with your listed order of preference, although Italian chocolate is also very good.

I may be wrong, but seem to recall it was called Marathon due to some involvement with the London Marathon race and the name was changed to disassociate it from this after some sort of deal fell through, probably sponsorship I guess.

I rather like the cheap chocolate they use in those foil wrapped little chocolate santas you hang on xmas trees, the same stuff they use in the cheap palm sized easter eggs. Probably made in a grubby plant in Bulgaria and tainted with tractor fuel and donkey droppings to get that unique taste.

Actually when visiting Oxford street I often buy the Fry s bar to replenish energy reserves, about the only chokie I can afford in Selfridges.

London marathon only started in 1981. Marathon bars were around way before that.
They changed the name because it was Snickers everywhere else in the world and they were fed up of making two lots of adverts.
Has anyone noticed how some of the chocolate bars in question have slowly become smaller over the years, too? Yet the prices charged haven't accompanied the 'shrinkage'...;)

Talking of name changes: Clarkes shoes have to have the name removed from the soles of the shoe if they are to be sold in Islamic countries, because when read backwards (and Arabic is read right to left), "Clarkes" looks a bit like Allah in arabic script, and if on the sole of the shoe would mean one was treading on the name.
The cough sweet Zube, with the slogan "Go suck a Zube", again had to have the name changed for Arab countries because there "zube" is a colloquialism for penis!

I'm aware of the company being Nestle (don't know how to put an acute on it), but I'm assuming it has always been that. So my question is why did it go from Nestle's Milky Bar to Nest-lay Milky Bar in Britain?
Which countries don't like the word Jif? If I ever find myself there, and I find myself in polite company I'll excuse myself to go to the loo, saying I'll be back in a jiffy, and watch their faces :)

Apparently if Forces' housewives got a bit bored and lonely whilst their menfolk were off playing soldiers, they would prominently display a packet of OMO washing powder in the window to let other lotharios know that the Old Man (was) Out.
I have always disliked Hershey's milk chocolate.
We Americans make a lot of good candy but can't come close to British or German chocolate.
My favorite chocolate has been Cadbury , ever since my first Cadbury egg.
American milk chocolate is hard and not soft and milky , It has way more sugar and less flavor.
The only chocolate I liked other than Cadbury was a German milk chocolate and I can't remember the name on the bar, It was probably Milka but I can't swear to it.
The Cadbury fruit and nut bar is a big hit in California.

"Everyone's a Fruit and Nut case" was Cadbury's slogan. Not sure if that's true, but it's certainly one of my favourites.
I think chocolate and raisins is a great combination. When I was a kid chocolate raisins came in a box about the size of a cigarette packet, and I'd force myself to eat them one at a time to make them last. These days I sometimes buy a bag from the supermarket and the taste takes me back. They don't last as long though, I stuff them in 4 or 5 at a time :)

Trying to avoid chocolate bars and I think you will find that most of them are just mass produced crap really....not as good as you thought they were when you compare to a freshly made cream cake or the best chocolate mix
There is chocolate and chocolate...the odd bar is ok for a sugar hit but I wouldnt eat too much as it gets sickly. The Twin Peaks bar for a pound is great value but stuffing all that down in one sitting cant be good for me :)

There'll be plenty of big businesses that would be like that. These companies don't really have a social conscience, they just do whatever they can get away with.
A few years ago I worked for a company that printed much of the packaging (and some of the advertising) for Beechams. I can't remember the name now, but the literature accompanying one of their products (it was a tonic or vitamins or something), which was destined for Africa, was laughable in the extreme. Basically it extended your life, improved posture, increased virility and made you more successful in every part of your life. Complete with pictures of a young black couple gazing lovingly at each other, and some black dude holding a trophy.
Had a poke around their current lines but nothing is jogging my memory, so maybe they don't make it any more.

When they go back for some more milk powder, Nestlé say they have to pay, and because the mothers have dried up they have no option to pay for something they can ill afford.

I heard this recently, also the powdered milk has to be mixed with water, the water is very often contaminated, so making the baby ill.

Strangely, the similar looking bars without the nuts, Titan, I don't like, have bought these in error!
I may have got the price of the Racer bars wrong, they might be cheaper than I said.
