Proximity of arm board to 401 turntable

Hi

My Garrard plinth (below) is almost finished and is looking rather nice, however I'd like some opinions about the proximity of the armboard to the TT. As you can see it is very close, is there are risk of vibrations from the TT transferring more easily to the arm? Thanks

I have wondered if one of the reasons that people like 12" arms with idlers is because it moves the arm bearings further away from the mechanical gubbins but I imagine with a plinth as substantial and lovely as yours that is not really a consideration.

Errr, your tonearm length determines how far away the motor is!!!!!! Seriously, the tonearm is mounted on the area of the plinth with greatest mass so, in theory be in a good place minimise vibration. The motor is to the left of the garrard which helps a little bit as well. If your worried about vibration, get a tonearm board made from ebony of something with a high damping factor. Decoupling your motor is another massive help. A good knowledge of damping/vibration supression/ decoupling/coupling etc will help get the best from your plinth and also performance from your Garrard. :cool:

Yes, I realised that, it was just the fact the armboard touches the edge of of the TT... I may well look into the ebony boards if necessary, thanks!
