Back when Ampex were the '406' open reel tape suffered from Sticky Shed Syndrome. Does anyone know if Quantegy overcome this problem or was it still the same formula tape?

Dunno my friend, but try to keep the tapes dry to stop moisture geting to them...

Aren't conservationists responsible for the whole "sticky tape" scenario ?
Whale oil used to be used in the binder that kept the oxide on the backing.
When whaling was dropped by most world nations the cost of whale oil rocketed, and the recording tape manufacturers had little option but to reformulate the binder, only they cocked up, and the current state of affairs is the result.
Strange but true ?

Someone asked the very same question over on AudioKarma quite recently. The answer is quite interesting: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=292569

I've never had any problems with recent production Quantegy tape myself.
