I had my Boom stored away for a while, but took it out recently. It seems to have a problem with the DAC and producing any audio output.

Yes - I did eventually find out about doing a factory reset, and got it working but that didn't last long. I also found out about the xilinx reset thing (whatever that is) and again that got the box working, but again it hasn't lasted long. Some info here - http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Special_IR_Keys_on_Reboot_for_Factory_Reset_and_La st_FW though there are other ways.

The box behaves as though it's forgetting some crucial data. Is it only mains powered, or does it have a backup battery inside somewhere? Otherwise I can't think why it keeps reverting to an unusable state. When it works - which seems to be rarely - it does pick up a music server and the track selection etc. works fine. The big problem is lack of audio.

Sadly, if it goes on like this it'll simply provide expensive dump fodder.

Join and ask.I have found answers, but not permanent solutions. I also found out about another problem which I didn't know I had. The knobs and fascia on these units are rubberised, and the surface turns sticky over time. Indeed this has happened to mine.

As it's coming up to Christmas I'll probably not bother to deal with this now, but I wonder if anyone would be interested in buying this for a modest fee as a project in 2019. If the dumps going to be the destination I'll offer it here first.

I might be interested as my boom has severe screen burn. No idea how easy or difficult it is though to swap out the screen.

I don't have any Squeezebox products but just out of curiosity I looked up 'Squeezebox Boom teardown' and found this informative thread with pics:

https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?82497-Is-Anyone-Fixing-Booms/page10

Scrolling down to the bottom is this pic which shows something that could be a PRAM battery .... just to the left of the Line In socket:
(bit of a dismantle to get there though)

Thanks for the teardown picture. I'll follow up that lead first, before deciding whether to trash my unit and make it available. I might at least be able to keep it going through Christmas. Pity about the sticky knobs and fascia though - although I could perhaps live with that if I could get it working again.
