Bought a couple of these under the Cyber Monday sale (£25 each).
Not only is installation much easier and quicker than the previous ECHO Dot, but the SQ is much better. Not only does it play louder, but it is a much fuller sound and very pleasing.
Good buy!
Geoff
I was considering buying one of these but held back, probably swoop for a couple next time they are on offer.

Yes, they are very good. previously I used mine for listening to Radio 4, my Audible books, and for general Google questions. The latest 3rd gen devices are so much of an improvement that I might use mine for listening to music as well. Amazon appears to have completely sold out its stocks so I am not sure that there will be special deals for a while.
Ive got an old one I use on occasion. Sound isn't as good as your describing tho. The old echo is good tho with the rotating top

I've got two of the 2nd generation Echo dots. One was in the bedroom where it was used to play Audible books and for alarm calls. The other was in the lounge and used to control various devices (I have several Alexa smart sockets and lights). The new device is slightly bigger but quite a lot heavier. The sound seems now to emanate from the sides rather than the top of the unit. If the 3rd generation Echo Dots come back on sale I would encourage forum members ot check one out.
So, you want me to put a listening device in my home, that's always connected to the Amazon AI? You must be kidding!
Besides, isn't this section of the site about methods of replay of music in high quality? Hi-Fi? These devices are certainly not that.

It'll soon be compulsory in China for households to have them in every room.
It'll have to be a government approved design, Amazon will probably make them for them.

Back in stock 28th December apparently, don't know if there will be an offer on though .

Alexa's can come on and record if they think they hear the tag word, so it doesnt overly surprise me that that happened. Mine has come on from the tv being on several times and a couple of times wanted to call someone as it thought thats what i wanted. mine have record mute buttons so use them usually

There will come a time when individuals will draw attention to themselves by not owning or using smart devices. That'll include me of course.

I can understand why you think this way, but frankly phones, tablets and pcs can all be hacked to record not just location info and audio, but video too.
I have commented that the built in speaker is much improved on the 3rd. No it is not hifi. However, the Echo family can be used to manage high quality music playback. Amazon have just launched a Tidal app for the Echo, and there are many apps that allow for streaming of high quality internet radio through other devices.

Me too,:)
some ways of doing this already are to use Opera as your browser - going to Settings then Advanced and selecting to Turn VPN ON
from today or tomorrow - you can do it ! your best choice is using Linux, the Beta version of Mint 19 is magnificent.
I decided a while ago not to fight it by avoiding all potential, but non proven spying. There are several ways to skin a cat
