American made valve pre amp for sale as I rather fancy moving to a solid state pre.

Hifi Plus review - http://www.herronaudio.com/images/hifiplusjan05.pdf ...
" there’s a quality to the VTSP-2 that sets it apart as something really rather special. Its sonic invisibility allows the subtle textural details in a recording to emerge, delicate facets that let the music breathe, conjuring the instruments and singers to life. There’s an immediacy and directness to performances, a lack of obstruction or interpretive fabric to distract or confuse the listener. For once, accuracy is not a dirty word. Just be aware that you’ll need similarly fastidious ancillaries to enjoy the full compass of the VTSP-2’s performance."

Remote control of volume, mute and input selection.

Dimensions. 18" wide x 3.5" high x 10.5" deep.

Excellent condition and full working order.
Original box/packing.

Comes with near new set of 6 Russian ecc88 and the original EH valves.

RRP $5,000.
£950 inc insured UK delivery

Oops, I should have mentioned this is 230 / 110V model so plugs direct into UK mains.

Brilliant amp! The most transparent valve pre I’ve ever heard. It’s as see through as the best passives, but with real dynamics. Does that thing that the best valve pres do in adding an extra dimension of space and texture. Huge following in the US, where Keith Herron is considered a bit of a god.

Thanks Jake.

Yes, it is a really good'un.
Lovely looking beast, too.
You've got me thinking about changing my mind ... :hmm:

I have to say I can’t think of an active SS pre I’d rather own J. Especially not at this price.

Jerry, is this line level input only? The review indicates no phono stage despite the phono button.

Hi Paul - no phonostage - I think the input channel is labeled phono so it's there if you want to connect up a separate phonostage. I think it's identical to all the others.

Are you sure about that Jerry? Non-phono linestages don't generally have an earthing post next to the input marked phono ...

This looks like a nice bit of kit.

I'm (almost 100%) sure it's only line level.

I think this unit shares the same chassis as the cheaper solid state HL-1 preamp and that one has an option for an internal phonostage.

From the Hifi+ review --- "There’s a ground post and in the case of the solid-state HL-1, the option to install an internal, fet-based MM/MC phono-stage. "

That makes sense.

Thank God for that - thought you were losing the plot for a second....

The plot?

My gosh, I lost that years ago, Manny. :eyebrows:

Way way way too good to sell. :mental:
Sometimes you go back to something and it dawns on you ... "what was I thinking?"

Agree. We’re in this mad hobby for life, let’s face it. We should recognise the very best things, buy them, love them and, when we fancy a change, tuck them away and bring them back in when the time is right. For me, the Almarro a318b, jolida glass dac, Audio Note Oto and possibly my current Crayon Audio cfa1 would be worthy of this treatment. Wonderful things.

Ah, wise words.
And from one so young. Well .... youngish.

It was some audiofoolery tube rolling that led me astray for a while.
Turned out the original EH were just way the best for this pre, and it wasn't until yesterday that I finally put 'em back and realised this.
Maybe I'll try some EH gold pins .... :hmm: :D

Haha, not feeling so young this morning, office party last night. Could someone tell my 8 month old son to go easy please!

Yep, EH for the Herron. Keith actively discourages ‘tube rolling’.

Let me know if you change your mind and have no qualms about shipping it to Denmark. I just sold my EAR 802 yesterday as I want more "flesh and blood" as it says on the Herron website. I could promise to let you have it back if I ever wanted to sell ...:D
Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter - shipping would be no problem as I have the original box and packing.

But you need to know that ...
a) I have no plans to sell. That was definitely one of my more idiotic ideas.
b) You are 2nd in the queue now should I change my mind!

Hi Jerry.
Thanks for replying.
I am used to being no. 2 in a family of 4. Please keep me on the list. You never know.
Kind regards
Peter

Time moves on, and it's time that this Herron preamp did, too.

Yes, I know it's wonderful - see previous comments by several folk - but hey ho, it's what I do. :D

I'll drop a PM to Peter / Rosewind to let him know, and I guess I give him a chance first.

BACK UP FOR SALE.
