Amp Platform

It looks like my brother will have to move his power amp onto the floor. At present the amp is on a Hutter rack, with no additional support, ie Stillpoints, cones ect. The floor is carpet over floorboards, and what I'd like to know is what members here think would be the best option. Options open, wood or granite, with either spikes or soft squishy things, or just put the platforms directly on the carpet.

If it is a valve amp then I'd say platforms sat on squashy things. Probably make no difference but it's belt and braces. If it is solid state just sit it on the carpet, it won't care.

I wouldn't put a solid state amplifier directly on a carpet as it could impede air flow around the heatsinks, especially if the carpet has deep pile. Use a piece of wood (plywood, chipboard or MDF) with the same footprint as that of the amplifier.

I am a fan of bamboo boards, unfortunately they are the wrong size. Amp size 215mm wide and 500mm deep. I may have to look if I can source bamboo board and have cut to size.

Fitted kitchen place may be able provide you with an offcut, trimmed to size.

The amplifiers case might be 20" inch's x 9" inch's, What is the distance between the feet, as they may sit onto the Bamboo Board. The Bamboo Board could be cut in half, so that each pair of feet have a separate Plinth.
Worth looking into as the Bamboo, is a affordable material, yielding good results.

I have already thought of this solution, although I really don't think this would be pleasing to the eye, even though they will be partially out of sight behind the tv, into a bay window.

Continuing with the cost effective solution, I used wood screws of the appropriate length. Nice sharp spikes!

Ok, so the assumption is that ventilation is the only consideration? That's fair enough.

I don't believe it's that simple, however it's your call.

I was thinking of getting a little bit creative.

The Krell has two fans pulling air upwards from under the amp into the heatsinks.

I was thinking of making two holes in a board, in the same place to help ventilation. Obviously the board would have to be off the floor on some sort of feet.

Has anyone considered placing a fan equipped laptop computer cooling pad under a power amp? Assuming the amp has underside vents, this could work. No doubt it may be best for the cooling pad not to actually bear the weight of the amp directly, so equipment feet could be used to give clearance.
