I love roses, sadly they have thorns. Beauty is but skin deep.

Great pics as usual, King.

This is probably the only picture I've ever taken of a rose - I was happy with the result. It was in a bunch of flowers sent when my little 'un was born, and was one of the first pictures I took with my (then) new Canon 450D about 18 months ago.

Hi Alex,

Great photo! I assume that you shot it in macro mode with your Cannon. Some of my photos were taken with a Sony a300 and a Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM zoom.

I'm of the opinion that the only good flower is a cauliflower, & have never got excited about roses - I think they're actually quite boring as flowers go, but close-ups of roses always look vaguely pornographic to me.
I'm sure it's a well documented phenomena.

Haha! The good Doctor Freud would no doubt have had something to say on that. Colpomorphic roses eh? :eyebrows:

Indeed! This rather quaint and endearing chat-up line, derived from time-honoured Glaswegian vernacular, also springs to mind:

"Haw there, hen, geeza sniff of yer flower!"

I'm told it never fails to loosen many a fine pair of thighs..... :eyebrows:

Marco.

Thanks King. One of the reasons I bought a Canon is that all my old film cameras are EOS, and so lenses/accessories fit their digital SLR range. By the looks of it I would have used an extension tube - I shot in aperture priority mode - f 1.8 with a standard 50mm lens, 1/40 second in natural light. The image is exactly as the camera took it, no manipulation in software. I used to love shooting macro still life, will have to scan some of my 35mm slides if I can dig them up.

Now that this thread is back on track, I'd like to say I particularly like this macro shot. Chris, divert your eyes!

Nice one Hamish.
