Got one of these today via groupon (not a good start, instructions were in German) anyway downloaded google home app on to my iPhone and went through the set up, everything seemed ok, got a noise through the speakers etc. but I can’t get Spotify to play through it, it tries to connect (via screen shown) then just gives up and reverts to listen on iPhone. Any guidance would be really appreciated. For YouTube it doesn’t even appear on the device list?

Try signing out of Spotify and close then restart Might get it working g

Are you sure your CCA is on WiFi and not Bluetooth? Once your CCA and iPhone are on the same WiFi you should be good to go.
You must also have a Spotify Premium account.
Thanks Grant. Got it working with spotify by choosing the device when the track was actually playing?
I've not tried youtube again yet, maybe tomorrow.

Thanks Chris, yes, they're both on same wifi & I got it working with free spotify as above. With youtube the phone just casts to my tv without even giving me options?
Well I think this little turdy disc is going back & I'll just stick a record on.
As I said I managed to get it to work with free spotify but that's about all & then it would still be playing the spotify track after you'd signed right out of the app to try & play from another source.
It appeared on the cast device list on the laptop a couple of times (via youtube & the file manager) but it wasn't accessible to play through (still said spotify underneath the device name even though I'd logged out of it).
I give up with the f**king thing.
Issue may be using free spotty

The little CCA is a solid as a rock in my experience (as long as your WiFi is good), I have three of them.
Here's something for you to try that I know for a fact works and is free! Download the Tunein App from apple and cast a playing radio station of your choice to the little puck(er). That works really nicely.

WiFi was a little flaky last night so will have another go with it later today.

You must be looking at the Pro or Premium edition. The normal TuneIn Radio app is free. Try that first. I can't see any advantage with the Premium
I bought one last week. I wanted to cast from my Android 7 ? phone to my TV to watch Bt Sport :rolleyes: (for starters)
Despite good wi fi , and the dongle setting up on my TV ,and downloading Google home , I still cant get my phone to find devices .
Left it till I get enthusiastic again :D

works with my iphone so not that. might be faulty, or it may be a issue with signal. prefer an rpi personally although there is a bit more to setting one up.

I’ve tried unlinking Spotify and using the other options but it only plays Spotify, even with that app closed? If I could just get it to play files from my laptop I’d be happy but it isn’t available to cast to, I can use Bluetooth for YouTube audio if I’m desperate.

Its a Skt life 4 ,quite new on Android ,so not I phone Roy :)
probably, i dont use it...bar set up. if you have tunein then in its app you can cast from there. a box appears that you touch and select the destination.

yes you can. any app that supports it and also the chrome browser will cast anything within it.. on pc etc. i use it more on pc than on phone
Well I reinstalled the chromecast & I can now cast youtube audio & my amazon music library to it so I'm moderately happy.
Thanks for sticking with me Grant, I can now see there's an option on the source menu to 'cast file' but when I click on it it takes me to the file manager but a pictures folder? (Windows 7).
try chromecast on chrome. cant get any more native than that. you can run most things in a browser window... not sure how its taking u to a picture file

Picture folder had some MP3s in it :o . Can cast files now, it's been so much easier using it with the laptop rather than the phone.

Hi Roy, It's the one in your screen shot but don't press the button which offers a free 7 day trial. If you read the description just above ratings and reviews and select "more" it describes the program and at the beginning, "listen to your favourite radio stations for free"

Today I solved all my Chromecast Problems.
I put it back in its new box together with its charger and cable , and Argos receipt and will sell it on the local farcebook page a week or so from Christmas !!
Hopefully someone who cant get one will pay nearly the £20 I paid for it!

Well, my daughter lives away mostly now and left her mum an I pad she didnt use !! Now having subscribed to BT Sport for £1 a month for the first 3 months as a Plusnet Broadband user , I was starting to use the I Pad in the kitchen and around the farm when I needed to catch some sport related stuff !
My son told me this am about my daughters Apple TV unit she had in her room .:eek: Woooo
Ten minutes later via the Apple tv app and casting from the I Pad , my surround sound from the Marantz singing !!! , away we went !!!
Oh yes !!!! ;)
