View Full Version : Power amp recommendation and decent speakers for 2nd system?

Having a shuffle and a change system wise, setting up a better 2nd system in the office at home.
For a second system which doesn't get used all the time, so something sensible budget wise should be enough, and happy to go second hand.

Currently using my Transporter into a set of active Acoustic Energy AegoM speakers, sounds good but sure I can do better if I up the "ampy". :)

Moving the Densen Pre into the 2nd system, but will need a power amp to feed it.
Also a set of speakers to round it off.

Just something "good enough", wont be played loud and doesn't need to be mega.
Just looking for ideas.

Thanks. :)

Got plenty speakers for you to play with. Lol

For office maybe a ss amp may be best. You got a new pre young man?

Thanks Grant.
Pinged Brian a PM about coming over to yours as well, but not heard from him about it.
Busy at work I'm sure.

New pre coming soon aye...with some other goodies.
When all in place get the Troops over again.

I think you should go left field with the speakers. Not sure what exactly though.

Small floorstanders could work well in the room, save on stands or wall brackets for bookshelf boxes.
Always loved my Rega RS3's...and they work great in normal sized rooms.

I was thinking something good at the price but which no-one talks about anymore. Like the Wharfedale Coleridge. Or the TDL RTL2.

I'm really enjoying this one:

on the end of an RME ADI2-DAC.

What about some active jobbies? Keep things simple.

Current setup:
running my Transporter into my active PC speakers (Not the ultimate, don't need that level, but they are very good) at the moment and sounds great.

Now have a Densen Pre spare (awesome proper hifi sounding thing) now relegated to second system duties: so need a power-amp and speakers to suit.

Ordered my speakers...Dali Zensor 5.
The room at home where my computers live (I call it the office lol) has a white Apple store vibe so wanted to not wreak that, but at the same time observe room size limits and not sound crap?
These things tick all the boxes, and (ahem) are What Hifi Award winners 2018.
Dali Zensor 5.

For a second system, gloss white floorstanders as high as your thigh that kick out impressive bass...what's not to like?

Just need a power amp now.

The earlier link makes me want to just buy it and be done.
Can't be faffed tracking down a mint Audiolab 8000p on Gumtree or whatever.

A good shout, but wouldn't let me use my Densen Pre though?
Already using a great set of active PC speakers, want to make it a bit more Hifi and use my spare "propa" hifi kit. :)

Both good suggestions, thanks.
Was very tempted by that Densen, but more than I want to pay for a 2nd system.

Problem solved, went for this.
Rotel RB-971

looks in good Nick and the seller has 100% feedback.
70 wpc and well reviewed at the time, happy with that. :)
