My System OB Speakers

I finally made the plunge to try OB speakers and have been very pleased with the results.
Yes size is an issue and having to use multiple amps can be troublesome the end results can be very satisfying.
Hawthorne Audio Rainier MKII custom build. Separate 300w plate amps for the Auggies (woofers) and McIntosh MC-2000 tube amp for the AMT and Midrange.

Very nice there! I heard a pair of Hawthorne’s years ago, not the Ranier though, unfortunately. Hawthorne is out of business now or no? Haven’t seen or heard much about them of late. Certainly fantastic dynamics from them, had I had a room that was a better space for them at the time, I might have sprung for some. Enjoy and thanks for sharing, great stuff there!

Darryl decided to pursue his other interests. It is my understanding a company in Canada (BC) is taking over the reins very soon and will offer Hawthorne Audio drivers and kits.
The AMT made for Hawthorne Audio is truly a remarkable driver and unique in it's 15" cultured marble baffle. The AMT 500 plays from 40khz to around 500hz, resulting in life like vocals in my opinion.
And yes they are big, mine have the extra Auggie (better loading) on top resulting in a speaker that is 76" tall.

That is good news, hopefully whomever takes it over will have good success with those drivers and kits. Certainly deserve some good distribution, Darryl certainly did his best with it. Enjoy your OB’s, they look very nice, surely sound it as well!

P.S.-I did notice the extra driver on top, wasn’t quite sure of the configuration as it had been awhile. I had thought yours were a bit different from the standard pair though. I recall whatever model I had heard, it was so effortless, dynamic swings that were incredible, dare I say simply lifelike! Quite capable of moving some air, yet also able to sound so delicate when called for. Enjoy!

Surprised that the tweeter isn't at ear level.
Who gets to hoover the room? Or have you tidied the wires a bit now? (-:

Actually the AMT is at ear level as the speaker is 76" tall maybe giving you the illusion it is not. From the bottom of floor to top of 15" wide AMT is 40". Also this AMT covers 40khz down to 500hz so more than just a tweeter, I'm surprised you did not know that ; )

I have not been brave enought to try open baffle speakers :( did hear a DIY pair once , OK ish but not my thing , Yours with all the kit behind them will be totally different :eyebrows:

It isn't but hey.

Lots of radiating area and an AMT. Gonna be good I think.
