My name's Ian, I'm retired and spend part of my time buying, modifying, refurbishing and selling on turntables from the 70s and 80s. Really it's just a chance for me to try several different makes and models and play about with them until another one gets my attention.

Best so far were an Origin Live Aurora Gold Mk2 (though the Resolution Mk3 that followed it wasn't so great) and an early VIP Traveler. Most Over-rated were a couple of Clearaudios and a Basis 1400. Guess Acrylic plinths aren't my thing.

Current equipment is a Roksan Xerxes with XPS7 PSU, Rega RB330 with a Michell Counterweight, Audiolab 8200CDQ, Rega Elex-R and Cambridge Aeromax 2 Speakers in a small square room.

Welcome Ian, AOS loves turntables! What music are you playing on it?

Hi Ian, welcome to the forum.

Are the Aeromax the ones with the BMR drivers? What do you think of them?

Hello Ian. Welcome to AOS.

If you have any turntable projects on the go they would be of interest. Perhaps they could be shown in the Gallery or Drawing Board sections.

This is a friendly place, so just join in and chat with everybody.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Mainly 50s 60s and 70s Pop, Roxy Music, Foreigner, Eagles, America, earlier stuff from Otis Redding Aretha Franklin Drifters and Ben E King, Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly, Elvis and Rick Nelson.

The Aeromax's are the ones with the BRM Drivers, Hi-Fi Choice rate them (and the standard Aero 2s) very highly, and they're the most natural sounding speakers I've found
to work in my horrible smal square echoey(?) room.

Will post pictures when I start another interesting project. Just sold a GL78 with a much stiffened plinth/Project 8.6 Arm with AT95E - sounded terrific for what was basically a £150- turntable.
