The little box on top, y’know, the 2 x 100W power amp :joy:

Looks like it could do some damage. What make is it? Valve or SS?

The top, little box really is a 2 x 100W power amp 😂 and it's a Douk Audio (Nobsound) TPA3116.

The bottom, slightly bigger box, is a Nirvana Electronic Works (N.E.W.) A60, a 60W / Ch Class A SS Power Amp.

Ah, I have the identical looking 50wpc version of the TPA3116 amp. It sounds bloody amazing for the money!

The 100wpc version doubles up on TPA3116 chips, has a bigger heatsink and also an opamp on the input.

How are you finding it?

First outing for it but all I can say is, how on Earth do they get £300 worth of sound quality for £30 ?

Fabulous little thing, that I could happily live with. Confidently handled everything I have thrown at it, Jazz to Metal, simple to complex.

Runs stone cold, so great summer amp.

Love it :)

What PSU are you using with it?

I see in the specs on Amazon that it is very shy of 100W x2:

Power supply voltage:
12V ------- 8 Ohm speaker / 12W (left channel) + 12W (right channel), 4 ohm speaker / 20W (left channel) + 20W (left channel)
15V ------- 8 ohm / 18 + 18W, 4 ohm / greater than 30 + 30W
19V ------- 8 ohm / 32 + 32W, 4 ohm / greater than 45 + 45W
24V ------- 8 ohm / 38 + 38W, 4 ohm / greater than 55 + 55W

(Unless they have used the specs for the 50W x2 amp?)

The distortion figures are not that good either. I'd expect certain material to show that up a little. Of course you can't quibble for the price.

My TPA3116 was put together by a bit of an expert on them on Audiokarma. It has no detectable hiss or switch on/off thump. Been switched on pretty well continuously for three years. Feeds my LS3/6 / Export monitors. It's a great little amp. One thing to remember is that the output filters should be chosen to match the impedance of the speakers, otherwise a slight frequency lift or cut may result.

Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about that, there are some who still listen to those quaint old valve amps you know ?

I know, I even have one myself. I tend to prefer the ones without the distortion though, like Radfords.
