View Full Version : Volumio and WiFi
It's probably just me being a bit slow (and not reading user guides) but I just realised that I can control Volumio through its own Volumio network that is created automatically at Setup - at least on Raspberry Pi 3b.
I had noticed the icon previously but didn't realise that by logging into it using password volumio2 I could just then point my browser at http://volumio.local and control playback on my Pi (ie without any other WiFi or Ethernet connections to the Pi).
I'm sure most others have sussed this out but if you happen to be in the dark like I was I hope you find this useful.

I think most users control Volumio through a web browser. Yes the Rpi can be connected wirelessly but I have found that a wired connection sounds better. The IP address will be different for different users and it is even possible to operate multiple devices from a single Volumio screen.

Much depends on your source material as using the pi’s own hotspot means you have no internet connection for radio or access to a nas etc unless you have a wired connection
That’s probably why it’s not mentioned very often
Not something ive tried or would be interested in. i like to have interconnection ability .. Geoff says it may sound better if connected to wifi too, although I dont know why it would. The icing on the cake for me is having audirvana connect to the rpi's. sound is better this way, and through in Tidal to the mix and its unbeatable at anywhere near the price.

Actually I find a wired connection to be better. My PC, NAS, and Pi are all hard wired. We are in agreement about Audivarna significantly improving SQ, especially if the upsampling facilities are employed.

At the moment I am just using a large usb drive plugged directly into the Pi so this way there is no need for a hub/switch/router just the Pi and a smart phone.
Streaming services are still on the horizon for me!

I have given up trying to understand and now just go what sounds best to my ears!

Fair enough, though in Hifi (and in many other aspects of life) I have found the simplest solution is often the best. In this it cuts out a lot of wires which is generally a good thing for SQ.
Of course if you are streaming then it's not a solution for your needs.
I must find out about Audirvana as I have now heard it referred to several times.
