WiFi range extender

I think that I need better signal strength in part of my house, can anyone recommend an effective device?? I'm currently with sky for broadband and don't want to change.

I use these to create a Wi Fi Mesh over the whole bungalow. Its the only thing I have found that works reliably.

I think they also make 5GHz models if needed (for slightly more dosh) - but I never found a real advantage above 2.4GHz

I have since relocated the router in the house and no longer need it .... keeping just in case ;)

I've got a Huawei one and had loads of problems with it, because my laptop was confused about whether to connect to the actual router or the extension. I still use it but for the Ethernet port only.

Does your one just extend the existing Wi-Fi without having to mess around with your device logging onto a different access point?

Never really found it a problem - once set up, my phone or iPad would log on when I went to the garage - if I went back in the house they would find the router - simples ...

A mesh might be a little bit simpler in daily use or in more complex situations - but is also a damn site more expensive. For using in just one extra zone it's heavy overkill IMV

I've got a simple Belkin one in use, similar to the above Netgear. Works well, uses same network name.
They do a dual band one and some with plug pass through as well.

A mesh might be a little bit simpler in daily use or in more complex situations - but is also a damn site more expensive. For using in just one extra zone it's heavy overkill IMVCheers. The other thing with mesh systems apparently is that things like NAS drives can't connect to them.

It is possible to change any old router lying around to do wifi extender duties. This in conjunction with either a powerline unit or a long ethernet cable. Various guides on tinternet show how this is done. Also possible on some old routers to act as an extender without having to connect to the main router via ethernet.

In our garden the wifi use to be very weak but using an old router and a few minutes set up time the problem was cured - all for free.

yeah, i tried that once.. the router i had wasnt suitable alas, but i have another old one now so might give it another go.
