Hello all,
Have been enjoying a Rogers A100 Amp running some humble MS 3.10s in recent years. Acquired a Dual 505-2 turntable a while back that replaced my non-functional, stalled project codenamed 'I'll fix it one of these days.'
Recently acquired a Quad 33/303 with a pair of ESL 57s, and even more recently a pair of Rogers JR-149s. Also have a Panasonic SH-ALL1C device for Spotify/streaming, which is rather nifty, but seems to lack 'soul', not to mention developer support.
I'm lucky enough to have a decent sized listening room (5m x 6m x 4m, suspended floor & ceiling, but no stud walls), and the ESLs are just glorious to listen to with most music (ie no point trying dubstep on them)
Just picked up the JR-149s today, so still putting them through their paces. I initally set them up in plenty of space, away from walls and corners, and attached them with the stock wires to the Rogers Amp. My inital impression was one of disappointment to be honest, I don't know what I expected, but I felt a bit underwhelmed.
To be fair this was a combination of factors: bad placement, different amps, crappy wiring on the Rogers speakers, a large room more suited to larger speakers, streaming spotify through the Rogers vs playing vinyl through the quads, and most of all that the ESLs are a phenominally hard act to follow anyway.
Having readjusted my listening back to 'normal' levels, rewired the JR-149s with decent cable, hooked them up to the quad amp, put them ~8" away from a solid wall and rewired them with decent cable, after further listening they've really started to grow on me a lot.
Anyhoo, must be off for now, will add in to one or two threads in due course with info, pics, and no doubt questions.
