As per title, I'm after a Nagaoka cartridge, the MP-100/MP-110 or eventually the MP-150.

Cheers.

Are you aware the Tonar Diabolic E is made by Nagaoka? I'm well impressed by this cartridge though needs quite a high stylus pressure and at least a medium mass tonearm. Available on ebay for under £50. Bargain of the decade and there are people doing replacement bodies for them if you fancy modding one.

Hi Tom,
many thanks for the suggestion.

I currently have a Technics EPC-270C which, if i'm not doing a mistake, should be very similar to the Diabolic.

The Technics is a best buy, an excellent cartridge, very detailed (with the elliptical stylus), musical and with a rich texture.

However, thank you for the advice, I will keep in mind.

Cheers.

from "Lenco Heaven"

"the Diabolic appears to be a variant of Nagaoka 321 also branded as Technics epc 270c. Very good cart, but if you think the vtf is high you can try the Technics or Nagaoka needle. It tracks at 1,8 gram..."

Yes indeed, the Technics is made by Nagaoka and the styli are interchangeable. I had both at one point and kept the Tonar as with the Tonar stylus it suits my heavier arm better.

You could buy a Diabolic stylus (either spherical or eliptical) from ebay and get quite a different flavour from the Technics. Thomas Schick has taken the Tonar, rebodied it, stuck it in a graphite headshell and charges 400 Euros ....

Small thing. FS stand for: For Sale I believe. This thread should be titled: WTD: Nagaoka MP-100, MP-110 or MP-150 Cartridge.

Sorry Tom....
How do you manage the so heavy VTF?
Did you try to set on a lighter force?
Do you think this could be an issue for the records?

It's no problem. Ortofon SPUs run at 3.5-4g and work fine, I have quite a few cartridges that run at higher stylus pressures. The main thing is to avoid mistracking - too light can be far worse than too heavy if it then mistracks and damages the groove. The Tonar likes heavier arms but can run fine on medium mass arms perhaps with a heavier headshell.
