Just heard that the legend Stan Lee has died. :(

I think we all knew this was coming, as lee was in his 90s but still very sad news. Thank you Stan for all the enjoyment your comic creations and Marvel brought me. God Speed. Excelsior

didn't know this was the guy, who was the man behind the Marvel Comics...a legend indeed..RIP old man...95 years..a good innings...

Creator of Spider Man, Fantastic Four, Thor, Dare Devil, Black Panther super hero characters, Lee was editor, writer then owner of Marvel Comics. If you didn't read Marvel comics or watch the films then you wouldn't know who he was. For those of us who did, who grew up with them, this is an incredibly sad day.

His work has been a part of my life on a monthly basis for 36 years and he will be sorely missed. A genuinely gifted and humble man.

Sad indeed...

Saw him on an episode of 'Big Bang Theory' about five years ago, looked like he was late seventies, didn't know he was that old.

I didn't see that episode, but saw numerous interviews over the years and he was always very charming, entertaining and pretty down to earth. I am still trying to get my head round that he is no longer here physically, but what a legacy of work he has left.

Thanks, Neil. I've heard of the Marvel comics of course, and the cartoon characters you've mentioned. However, I didn't really read many of the comics when I was a kid, so didn't know he was behind that.

Was 2000AD part of Marvel? That's what I was into back then, and the likes of Warlord.

2000AD was its own thing. I liked 2000AD as well, but I wasn't much into Warlord or the like.

Ah thanks, fair enough. I think the problem is that Marvel comics were more a thing of the (50s/60s?) correct me if I'm wrong, and I was child of the 70s/80s, as indeed you were, but unlike you back then I was only 'into' what was most popular/mainstream at the time, and so wouldn't have been interested in anything out with of that.

Plus, as an adult, such things would be of zero interest to me. I gave up having any interest whatsoever in comics around 1981. And any films or books made about Marvel characters since would similarly have been of no interest.

Anyway, I'll leave you guys to it:)

Comic books (not comics) are hugely collectable, and some are worth many thousands. I guess they were intended for children, but the sometimes incredible artwork and imaginative storylines are probably best appreciated by adults (albeit rather nerdy ones).
