After deep cleaning vinyl what do you use as a 'maintenance' tool to keep occasional dust etc at bay? There any many possibilities out there it seems but do you have any particular recommendations for excellent antistatic brushes/ cloths or the like? Many thanks

I use a carbon fibre brush and if I get a static problem I've got a Zero-Stat gun. Also I store freshly cleaned records in new anti static sleeves.

Blue horizon pro brush

Has a bar at back and as it swivels it cleans off any crap it's picked up.

What Ian and Grant said.

The carbon fibre brushes are simple but very effective in my experience, I've had untold carbon fibre brushes and they are all pretty much the same.

Some come with a fancy name but dont waste your money. As I say I've had them all including:

https://www.analogueseduction.net/brushes/audioquest-conductive-carbon-fibre-record-cleaning-brush.html @ £18.00

and the Blue Horizon at between £16.00 and £20.00 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLUE-HORIZON-PROBRUSH-RECORD-CLEANING-BRUSH-/351751252978?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10

Just ordered another one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vinyl-Kleen-Anti-Static-Carbon-Fibre-Record-Cleaning-Brush-Fiber/183128419490?epid=9016602338&hash=item2aa34deca2:g:tDwAAOSw8K5aqmwd:rk:2:pf:0 and they are great, no need whatsoever to spend more, they are all pretty much the same

As I say, the majority of the carbon brushes that look like this are the same, just different name printed on and prices ranging from sensible to daft ;)

They all have the bar Grant mentions. You just swivel the brushes over to clean off the picked up dust

Never tried one of those Drew. I have one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Ursa-Major-Brush-schallplattenb%C3%BCrste-With-14-String-Carbon-Brushes-walnut-Wood/22017661335?iid=183164802500&chn=ps
The most gorgeous brush I've ever laid my hands on, aesthetically it is beautiful hence I had to have one.

Most importantly, does it do a better job of lifting out / picking up the dust than the basic carbon fibre brushes I've had - No. Hence I've another one of these on order https://go.skimresources.com/?id=2113X565594&xs=1&isjs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2FVinyl-Kleen-Anti-Static-Carbon-Fibre-Record-Cleaning-Brush-Fiber%2F183128419490%3Fepid%3D9016602338%26hash%3D item2aa34deca2%3Ag%3AtDwAAOSw8K5aqmwd%3Ark%3A2%3Ap f%3A0&xguid=01CW44REJS2KNDEX2VSKCPVHQJ&xuuid=cafedd96b64e9229ab4855acd13f5ac4&xsessid=&xcreo=0&xed=0&sref=https%3A%2F%2Ftheartofsound.net%2Fforum%2Fsho wthread.php%3F61193-Post-deep-cleaning-anti-static-brush%26p%3D1030496%23post1030496&pref=https%3A%2F%2Ftheartofsound.net%2Fforum%2Ffor umdisplay.php%3F4-Analogue-Art&xtz=0&jv=13.12.1-stackpath&bv=2.5.1 which like I said do a great job of removing the dust from the vinyl.

looks like a shaving brush... I use one every day. :eyebrows: I quite fancied a sticky one for day to day use, but never got to it, and dont play records so much now.

Yep, probably is a shaving brush with carbon fibre bristles. Not worth £12.00 and wont do a better job than the usual £5.00 carbon fibre brushes in my view.

I use an inexpensive carbon fiber brush. I read an article years back showing the magnified view of the brushes in the grooves. No natural fiber brush was small enough to reach the bottom of the groove, only the carbon fiber was small enough to reach near the bottom.

And of course the static issue, carbon fiber can create static, but I don’t think it’s any worse than any other brush? And they do make grounded brushes, I’ve never tried one, but it makes sense I guess?

After a thorough RCM cleaning, I try not to use a brush unless I need to. Storing in a vinyl sleeve, it should stay pretty clean for a good while. I’ll play a record 5 times before I do the old once around with a brush before playing. If I can see much dust, I wash it again, rather than keep pushing the dust to the bottom of the groove with a brush.

I use an original Decca carbon fibre brush. They are not expensive and can be readily bought on-line.
The later versions used one row of carbon fible bristles with a second row of Kevlar fibre bristles. I prefer the original all carbon fibre version.

Can also recommend the Hunts carbon fibre/velvet cleaning brush.
