Hello everyone!

I recently acquired an Innuos Zen Mk1 and have just started to rip some CDs.

I read in the manual that I will need to connect the Innuos to a DAC via a USB cable in order to listen to the albums.

I don't have a standalone DAC, but I do have an old Wadia 581ise which I believe can be used as a DAC.

Could anyone advise how I might be able to connect the Innuous (USB) to one of the Wadia digital inputs?

I'm hoping that I won't have to invest in a new (USB) DAC...

If the Wadia does not have usb input, then look for a usb to SPDIF converter, ie usb in to other digital connector out, that goes between zen and Wadia.

Yep, as Mandeep said. There are several options on that type of converter, but I would not know which one(s) would be best to try. I am sure others will chime in with opinions.

Enjoy your Innuos, I love my Zen Mk2, it is a keeper!

I use a cheap (now) M2Tech Hiface mk1 with good results, it's plug and play.

That's great - thank you so much.

Thinking ahead, am I supposed to get a special audiophile USB cable as well, to go with the adaptor?

The HiFace plugs straight into the back of the Zen.
It will stick out a fair bit, and if there's not much room you'll need a USB extender cable. It has a Type A plug and a Type A socket at the other end.
You can get the cable from Amazon.

If you have a Squeezebox that will connect with the Zen over your home network, as will a RasPi running Squeezelite.
The Zenruns LMS (ie the Squeezebox server program).

Thanks Chris!

That's really helpful.

I'll go shopping...

Yes mine sticks out I put something under to support it. I liked it so much I upgraded to the J Kenny upgraded version when I saw one for sale. If you want to spend a bit more I'd go for that.

I used one of these short cables with a HiFace 2 https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-6in-Extension-Adapter-Cable-Black/dp/B000E5CYW8
