It controls the operation of the Caiman MKII and SEG. If you have one of those DACs and you are happy with the sound of it then you don't need the SEG-30. But if you are looking for an improvement without wanting to spend a lot of money, then it is value for money.

Having had the SEG 30 chip, plus the Dorado mind, for 3 days , I can say it's very revealing of what I was not getting....upgraded in stages, ie put the chip in and listened, then added the dorado and listened, the chip makes all the difference in sq by itself, and together they absolutely shine. Just my wee bit, but have had the family, and a few hifi locals confirm this, over some beers mind, but nevertheless...
