I bought this from Montesquieu (Tom) back in 2012, it had a brief and very enjoyable stint in my system with a Denon 103 but house move and general upheaval have meant it has been dormant. Am now trying to slim down my turntable collection hence sale of;
1. A Lenco G88 motor unit. Tom's original ad described it as an ‘incredibly sophisticated piece of engineering… in some ways superior to the Garrard 301 and 401… in the lack of any need for a magnetic eddy brake due to its ingenious speed control mechanism, high tolerance for voltage fluctuation and improved idler mechanism that operates on the bottom of the platter rather than the top'. I can’t compare it directly to the 301/401 (I have a 401 but different set-up) but it does sound like proper hi-fi. Runs well, smooth and quiet. Also included is an as new sealed lubrication kit/ thrust bearing pad that Tom ordered just in case. Complete with original mat and strobe disk and in excellent condition as pictures show.
2. Plinth made by Russ Collinson - two piece affair, 21mm ply, suspended with squash balls. Painted black though probably could use a repaint. Arm board can be rotated to take a 9” Rega arm.
3. 12” tonearm. This was made by speedysteve / Magna audio (also an esteemed member of this forum) combining the Rega R200 bearing with a 12" arm tube. Tom had this made with two counterweights - one to balance an SPU (which I used with the Denon 103) and the another one for your lighter carts. Both included in sale. Solid silver-wired arm wire and cable made by Steve - though cable may need a bit of attention as if memory serves me correctly I only got sound out of one speaker last time I hooked it up, not sure why. Two standard SME connection headshells included. Plus some extra squash balls!
I bought for £600, offering for £550 in view of faulty arm cable - total bargain as prices of vintage equipment have gone up in the last five years (just look at what 301s and 401s go for now). May separate but want to offer it as a piece to start with.
Collection only from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, though I would be happy to drive a radius of up to say 100 miles (for cost of petrol) to meet the buyer and hand over in person.
