Speaker Cables for Tannoy Eaton

Hello there,
I have just bought a pair of Tannoy Eaton.

I have Talk 3, Avondale Black Link, Supra Classic 2.5 and QED Strand 79 as speaker cable.

Do you think they are fine with the Eatons or it would be better something bigger (4mm) as Van Damme LCOFC or Linn K20?

Amplifier is a Quad 606.

I think you are trying to upset those who have invested in exotic cables. I swear by my Damsel Hair Biwire Rapunzel Cables. A real bargain at 50 Crowns per Cubit! :D

I've used the Supra Classic and you'd have to go a fair way to beat that.

I'm back using vintage Western Electric vintage copper, nothing fancy, it's cloth-covered but sounds great

That's actually a decent suggestion. Having had five pairs of Eatons and knowing the sound of the 606 amp, I reckon the clean sound you get with mains cable should suit rather well.

And the wire ends will fit the small holes in the spring terminals nicely (assuming you Eatons are unmodified vintage ones)

Any of the cables mentioned will be suitable. In fact any cable with a total loop resistance of less than 0.5 Ohm will do.

Since you are using a Quad amplifier, why not be guided by the late Peter Walker (founder of Quad) that, in his opinion, the only important property a speaker cable should have is that it is long enough to reach between the amplifier and the speaker. After that, the only other requirement is the that the colour of the insulation should match that of the carpet over which it runs.
