Hi Guys

Still on the hunt for a MM phono stage and am edging toward a tube based unit (my final is a Longdog 330b SET) and was wondering about the Douk Audio EAR clone. Is it up to the original or merely a poorer cousin? The price seems good but perhaps too much so. Ethics and 'Chi-Fi' bashing aside what do you think?

Here's a couple of links: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Douk-Audio-MM-Phono-Preamplifier-12AX7-ECC83-Valve-Tube-PHONOBOX-Hi-Fi-Pre-Amp/282048440546?hash=item41ab65a8e2:g:SSQAAOSwSlBY4kp O:rk:7:pf:0

Looks nicely built to be honest. Firebottle proved that the original can be improved a fair bit. Rexton has a thread somewhere about a clone he built and the Excellent results he got from getting Firebottle to modify it.

Good price to start off with anyway.

Interesting, it might be worth contacting Firebottle to see if he'd be willing to upgrade/tweak it. I'll drop him a message...

Not sure what the fascination with the EAR 834P is. It's pleasant enough but certainly nothing spectacular in standard form. Maybe there are mods that take it further, I don't know.

Agree in stock form it's fine but no stunner (and certainly no bargain at current prices) but I have heard various modded versions and they do sound much improved.

In all fairness, what's out there, thats better for £280 built. Brand new, With valves.

Looks quite good for money. Sure someone with phono knowledge could improve it for not too much Good thing about these buys is the value you get for a good case and all the bits inside would cost lots more in this country
