Black oil: Does anyone use it ?

While browsing turntable accessories on Amazon I came across a number of adverts for audiophile quality Black Oil turntable lubricant, apparently it’s oil blended with Molybdenum Disulphide and Graphite for superior and longer lasting protection of turntable bearings, does anyone use this stuff and can comment on its effectiveness ?

Sounds similar to Molyslip which has been around for generations. I'd have thought the lubricant provided or specified by the turntable maker would likely be best. Although that said, I normally use EP80 with a touch of STP.

Steve, what you are describing is the black (coloured) oil that Linn use in their turntables.

Jamie, the idea that ‘oil is oil’ just isn’t true. Now a lot of aftermarket sellers of turntable bearing oils do seem to suggest magical properties for their own oil mixes and I agree that such claims are rubbish. However, there is one aspect of bearing oil, with regard to turntables, that does make an obvious subjective and measurable difference, and that quality is viscosity - how thick the oil is.

yes agreed,i should have made it more clear,these sellers with those claims dont get giant oil company's to make special oil just for turntables. imo the oil is already produced by said 'oil company's' for what ever purpose,its then labelled by sellers as super duper audiophile oil and the price is jacked up considerably.
