Retro cool speakers from 1972 .
No positive or negative markings though [emoji35].
Would that insulation be original ?

Nice. Quite reminiscent of Braun speakers of the same era.

Dunno about the lagging, could be original. Check polarity with a small battery, if the bass cone moves forward the positive of the battery is on the positive of the speaker. If it moves back, the other connection is positive.

Cheers Geoff, do you think that insulation is original? It looks like modern cavity insulation to me , though it itches like the old stuff !

A lot of speakers had glass fibre lagging inside. Sealed boxes were often crammed with it. Hate the stuff, it's not even very good at damping, used for cheapness.

The wadding is most likely original and is a common addition in sealed box loudspeakers for good reasons.

With regard to the cables - are both cores identical? If one has a tiny line or ridge on it, then this is usually positive.

not seen them in cream before... i do remember them tho. used to sit on angled stands. will sound decent

Both sides of the cables are identical, there’s not even any markings on the crossover , I did the small battery thing to ascertain which was which

could put a 9v battery over the speaker terminal, but on many smaller drivers it wont really matter and if the cable looks original this may be case here

100 watts, even using the slightly lower DIN rating would have been bloody high in 1972....even today it seems enough.
I bet that crossover eats a lot of power.
Given how haphazard that wadding has been applied, i'd be tempted to strip it out and start again....after dampening the walls of course
