Channel 5 this afternoon. A programme about the APT-E Advanced passenger train...Nothing i didnt know but a shock to see something of intelligence on TV all the same..Long live the '70's. 1:03 on..proper engineering..Destroyed by .............................

I pass through Crewe station quite often and they have an APT parked up there in the sidings gradually deteriorating. Ironic isn't it - when I was a kid it was 'The Future'.

I did a student placement from University at BR Engineering at the Railway Technical Centre in Derby in 1986. It's now the RTC Enterprise Park and no Railway research takes place there any more.

Nice. So many documentaries now pander to the American audience: say something only slightly technical, fill in with ordinary people's irrelevant comments, other blather, ad break...
...repeat all that had gone on before, introduce one tiny new fact, use Sun-like diagram including no more than four icons to explain concept, ad break...
