Is it worth looking for SACDs

not that many around tbh Robin. Some are good but you need to play them out of the analogue out of your cd player, as it doesnt work out of digital lines bar hdmi of course.
As said, a tidal sub might be better, especially if you have a way on unwrapping at least once.

Tidal masters won't necessarily be the same master used on the SACD, so if you want that particular mastering there's no option. No idea where you can buy them from now though.

i got one from amazon usa recently. had to ship it in but it was my fav cd and wanted the sacd to make up my set.. vinyl, cd, and hybrid.

If you search for SACD format on Amazon you will get a sense of what is available!

Appears to show over 5,000 titles. You can search within SACD by genre too!

I think there are still some Classical new releases. That turned out to be the main market for it.

For the cost of one monthly subscription I can buy 15-20 CDs from local charity shops and E Bay.

I think the original post was about SACDs. However, in response to your observation, a monthly subscription to Tidal gives me access to virtually limitless choices, not what somebody donates to a charity shop. You may be more fortunate in your local charity shop choices but I have found that my local shops have very little that I am interested in buying, and frankly I don't think it is worth spending hours searching through stock on the off chance that there is something worth buying. I try to listen to at least one new album a day on Tidal and typically much more than this over a month. If there is something I like then I will buy a copy, though I have no desire to add to my current cd warehouse. I would say that these days I probably buy fewer than 1 in 30 or so disks I listen to on Tidal. As to eBay, I have found that postage costs significantly increase the base selling price. To put it bluntly, I value Tidal because I can listen to new albums as they come out and if I find an artist I like, can explore there back catalogue. Sure, Tidal is not for everyone, but I think it is an amazing bargain.

Funny a friend asked me the same question last week and my answer was not really. the reason is that Hi-Res music on a variety of sites is as good or better. Tidal, QuBuz, HighRes Audio to name a few, you can join and stream and buy and download if you wish. I have about 20 SACD's which I play through a Blurry player that can handle them connected to my amp, they are good but not worth it nowadays. I have just gone digital stream and integrated my ripped CD's on a NAS drive and this is a great hi SQ solution for not a lot.

Thanks for all the comments, I will probably pick the odd disc up if something interests me, in the meantime I will trial the various options for streaming and see which I like best.

I think it still is, and when I come across SACDs I think I would like I buy them, and listen via my Esoteric P5 and D5

I have a handful of SACDs and to my ears sound a little better than the same music on CD. I doubt I would bother to seek out SACDs but will use them in preference to CD when I have them.

My listening is mostly classical, and many of the smaller classical labels are still very active in releasing new sacds. I always prefer them to the standard cd release. The sound has more air and just sounds more natural. You also have the choice of multichannel if that floats your boat.

Thanks Martin, I rarely purchase classical music, at the moment if I see something at the right price I will buy it just out of interest, too be honest not sure if I will be buying many more cds.

Think the mastering is different even on the normal section of most sacds so you often gain even if you just play the non sacd side
