Solder station

Not having a lot of luck with my solder stations. The trusty Weller EC2000 has packed up and no spare irons are available. The other Weller iron I use as a backup has also stopped working. So I am looking for a good quality but not mega expensive solder station.

Any recommendations ?

I bought one of these years ago not expecting a great deal and it's been faultless. Very easy to set temperature on and reliable.

There are plenty to choose from on CPC.

I have some spare tips, it's the iron itself which has fallen to bits and no one appears to do a replacement. I guess, if I had more time, I could dismantle it to check wiring and find another Weller iron which could have the plug changed to fit.

Thank you. One of the companies selling Weller, who couldn't help me, sent a link to their site with a soldering station just like this one but twice the price. I can get three of these for the price of one Weller iron on it's own..:scratch:

Here's a picture of mine Dave. Got it from Farnell must be about 8 or 10 years ago. I even ordered a spare heating element as I thought it wouldn't last but it's never given a minute's bother. Definitely good enough for occasional hobby use. Only downside is the LCD display isn't backlit.

This seems to be available at various prices and under different names. It looks good, so I might get one. Definitely won't be paying hundreds for a Weller again.

Thanks for that.

Basically, the internals of the iron itself have fallen to bits. The heater element you link to might do the job. I will have to open it up again to check exactly what has gone wrong.
