Ash cloud ?

I heard there is a large ash cloud over the UK,How bad is it.
Any pictures ?

I am in spain, so have no idea how bad it is there but the airways are in chaos - looks like my wife and best mate who are both in the UK are unlikely to be able to get here for her few days off...

The problem is mainly confined to the upper atmosphere 20000 to 300000 and above. Commercial jets operate in the 20 to 30 level. If ash is pulled into an engine it heats up and then cools coating the fans with hardened ash...result engine fails.

Turbo prop planes can fly as they operate at lower levels. Most UK air space and that of northern Europe has been closed for the last two days. I live beside an airport and the silence has been brilliant....not that its too noisy anyway.

Big problem will come if a nearby volcano erupts. If it does then all of Europe and America will be affected.

The interesting thing is that this is a small volcano in the wrong place i.e under a glacier. The ice has been helping to make the ash problem worse. Can we dare to imagine if a super volcano went up....Naples (built in the middle of a super volcano) or the biggest known one Yellow Stone Park in America. Some think if Yellow Stone went up, that it would be an extinction level event...scary stuff.

Thing is its only a matter of time before a super V becomes active.

There has been some ash fall out in northern Scotland but not much...so far. However there is more to come. The Uk health organisation says there is no health risk but that's wrong there is. Volcanic ash once it gets into the lungs will not only clog your lungs up but the glass in it will cut your lungs...not nice.

This disruption could go on for weeks as the weather moves the ash cloud about the sky and the volcano continues to erupt.

Historically, about 200 years ago the big volcano on Iceland erupted and that effected crops all over Europe and over large parts of the world. It screwed the weather up for a few years.
