I possibly have the Opportunity to purchase either of these amps and im not sure which to go for.
The epoch is on hi fi wig wam and apparently has £600 worth of mods by G T Audio.
Any advice opinions welcomed :)
the epoch has more like £350 of mods

There is always the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". You could save yourself quite a few hundred pounds that could buy more software. There is also the "If only".

I hear what your saying but i need to return my existing pre(wrong one sent to me no phono stage) so still need a pre so with the money from that i can get a micro 25 for an extra £150 or epoch with mods for around £385
will a standard 25 match or outperform a moddeded epoch.
Maybe a stadard micro25 is a good platform for any future upgrades
I'll see if any more opinions come over the weekend till i decide at the moment im edgeing towards the micro 25

will a standard 25 match or outperform a moddeded epoch.
I'd guess that would depend on what has been done to it wouldn't it?

well it's had the psu worked on and the caps im not sure what else or what parts was used.
Doesn't really help i know, maybe i should go for the micro 25 as i like the basic 25.
I hate it when people dangle carrots in front of you.

Hehe yeah, I was gonna say if someone spent 600 on a jack hammer and used it to mod the epoch... Well that's bad mods ..
I'd probably go for the unmodded micro... It's more of a known quantity... Since the mods are unknown ...
Link to the Amp on wigwam and maybe someone here will be able to shed a bit more light on what might be better...
Also doesn't glen do mods him self ... Perhaps you could give him more money to make the micro better??

You don't modify a Micro 25, you buy a Micro R.....:)

Price has dropped to £350 now
Looking at the innards pic, it doesn't look hugely unlike the current model, except that Glen settled on smaller supply caps and the ones in this Epoch look humungous..
I'm sure the Epoch sounds ok though and Glenn can always check it over, confirming or denying that the revised supply is doing a good job (those diodes look like something from a Krell, rather than a preamp...).
