Hi everyone.
My name is Pete and I live in Bedford England with wife Sue, Billy the bull terrier and,
4 chickens, some fish and crabs. :lolsign:
My stuff consists of a 211 bassed power amp built by a friend of mine,
Heart/Marantz CD6000,pioneer 609 cdr,trio tuner,MF X10D,Behringer DEQ1024, NVA passive pre with digital volume control added, Cambridge Dacmagic, and newly acquired Quad esl57s.

Hello Pete and welcome, stats eh good choice, 211's now thats an amp i havn't had the pleasure of at home, i have liked the ones i've heard though at shows etc, pics of the aformentioned beasts would be appriciated though, music tastes?
Bull terrier yes we got one as well, ours is a staffie

My amp is great the guy that built it makes them as stereo and as monoblocs, and also makes transistor battery amps, he does sell a few but doesn't really advertise them.
Saving up to get the quads serviced at the moment,although they sound great
just want to get them checked over as they have no service record.

your 211 looks a bit like a Mr Robinsons amp.
Sorry to hear about your crabs, you need to go to a certain clinic for that :lol:

Nice collection of gear you've got there. 211 valve amp (SET?), how many watts? I ask, as a user of Quad '57s for about 40 years. Talking of which, the rear of yours would appear to be too close to the wall, in what looks like a hard, lively acoustic. Would suggest that you try to move them out by at least a couple of feet.
What are your tastes in music? I'll leave it to others to comment on your living with crabs!

The amp is one of Simon's with a little input from me (woodwork,paint etc')
Just changed the copper nuts on the front and back to something a little better looking.
I think power output is around 22-24 watts set, with U19 rectifiers and now a huge approx 12" x 3" x3" paper in oil capacitor that was so big he had to mount it on the top of the amp and fit the metal cage, you can probably just make it out in the pic.
Amp wheighs around 50kg's
That picture with the quads in is a little out of date, they are now just about 3' 6" from the back wall and I have made some blocks to raise them off the floor by another 6" and tilted forward so they are very nearly vertical as I found when sitting down, the sound just went straight over my head when they were on the floor using the little feet as normal.
They are about as good as I can get them in that room really.
As for my taste in music, most stuff really, especially Pink floyd,little feat, cream,Hendrix,nils lofgren, and modern chill out type tunes,ministry of sound stuff, tecno even some Classical like Holst the planets,Moussorgsky and the Tomita copy's of them.

Wow! 20 watts - they do live up to their intended design as transmitter valves.
That's good - would seem you are doing all you can to get the best out of the Quad 57s. When the speakers were designed back in the '50s, domestic easy chairs were higher.
Tastes in music? No problems there. Don't be coy about enjoying classical - there are many who were introduced to classical music through the likes of Keith Emerson, Tomita, Walter (later Wendy) Carlos, Curved Air etc. Music only comes in two catagories: good or bad!
