I have a pair of these that I still use, Mauro is spot on, they have a full, vintage sound, lots of detail and lovely, solid bass. Great for a classic rock session. GLWS

Nice one, Barry - you'll love 'em! I always enjoy listening to mine, as they highlight precisely what's wrong with the sound of most modern headphones, much the same as most modern loudspeakers...;)

They're HEAVY buggers though, so you may only be able to wear them for a while, before needing to give your head a rest, particularly as they tend to clamp the sides of your head (and ears) rather tightly, which can subsequently make them rather sweaty to wear in warm weather.

That aside, I've compared them with designs up to £350 and the old timers held their own against all of them. They also isolate outside noise better than any other headphones I've tried. You'll be unable to hear anyone speaking to you with them on, and I mean when there's no music, and they're reasonably efficient too, so match well with most headphone amps.

Hi Marco,

I've been after a pair of the original Koss Pro4AA for a while now. I used to use a pair of them in the late '60s, and whilst I don't actually like listening on headphones (I don't like the 'in the head' experience, or the fact that when you move your head, the image moves with it), there are times when they can be useful when one needs to listen deeply into the music. After a period of using various inexpensive Sennheiser and Sony models, I thought I would return to some vintage Koss headphones.

Yes I know they are hot, heavy and sweaty in use (I have a pair of the self-energising Koss electrostatic ESP6s, which have identical headband, fluid-filled ear cushions and the thick coiled lead, and I do find them uncomfortable to use for long periods of time), but since moving to the use of monoblock power amplifiers, located directly behind each speaker, I cannot use the ESP6s anymore.

So despite what I've written, I'm actually looking forward to using the Pro4AAs again. :)
