My newly acquired system uses XLR cables from the preamp to the power amp , I bought a pair of 300mm ( a little short really) ones for £15 , they do the job but I’d now like to upgrade this possible weak link .

Only from me mate. But! There is a good recommendation in there for the Mogami if you'd like something cheaper.

You'll struggle to hear any meaningful differences blind, which some guys kindly tested the other week, and found the same...

My preferred XLRs are from Blue Jeans audio, Belden 1800F & Neutrik XLR, because they are solid and make a tight connection.

£22.50 for 1M cables. :)

Would appear the difference was obvious enough to make a statement?

That's just a statement; Gordon, who was getting blind tested, could tell no difference. I'd be interested to see what QWin would have thought if he got blind tested too, judging by the test, he says:

"So the Spotfire got the best out of my balanced system, but it is a subtle difference, only noticeable over prolonged listening sessions with varied material."

Or:

"Gordon stated there was not enough difference for him to pick one cable as better than another and to be honest, I felt more or less the same way."

I have no axe to grind, just a bit of balance to add, based on my own experiences with cables & blind testing.

I thought the write up was very balanced (deliberate pun) [emoji38]

I've been using Silver Mogwai XLR cables for a couple of years (https://www.iglooaudio.co.uk/interconnect-cables.html). They're £95 for a 1m pair and very well constructed. I've never felt the need to try anything more expensive.
