Ul vs. Pentode

What is the main difference here.
I have had people say I hate Ultra liner.Others say it's better then Pentode.

Because my amp tends to stay in triode I really couldn't comment all though I love the Audio Valve 75watt EL84 Pentode toaster mono blocks.

I'm in no way knowledgeable about these matters, but I thought that ultralinear loading of a pentode output valve was the only way to best use a pentode valve (as promolgated by the Mullard valve company, 43% output transformer taps and all that).

As far as I understand it, the pentode was developed to overcome certain shortcomings of the triode and tetrode valve. I would agree that common consensus has it that valves operated in triode mode are better for audio use.

I don't know - I'm largely a 'sandman', but do have a Ferrograph 632 reel-to-reel tape deck that uses all-triode electronics, and was much promoted because of that.

Oh Mr. Sandman,
Tubes are wonderful but I have owned some very dynamic solid state too.
Don't forget glass and metal where not much more than sand of one kind or another at one time.Glass from white sand iron from black.

UL operation is somewhere between triode and pentode operation depending on the tap ratios, hence seen by many as the best of both worlds!:)
