Hi Dan,
sorry I’ve just noticed that you have Pioneer PDS 703 as well.
Which is better between the Marantz and the Pioneer and why?
Thank you.

I would say the Marantz is an acquired taste as in the wrong system can sound bright and brittle but the Pioneer is one i always go back and sounds superb HI-FI Hanger have one on ebay for £75 as well as postage grab it if i were you bargain...

Yup. All good advice. I like the Pioneers. A PD-S703 at £75 is well worth having and Hi-Fi Hangar is a reputable dealer.

The 703 goes for less than some Pioneer SP players as it only has an optical out which limits its use as a transport.

I've found another one by Retrotech Audio at £100.
Furthermore, a friend of mine is selling an Arcam Alpha 7SE at £70.
Which one do you think it's better?
Thank you

I have both and my heart still says the Pioneer
What amp did you get to go with the CD player?
The Pioneer can be a bit on the lean side, so depending on your amp & speakers it can sound shrill & sharp. The wonderful detail it has bsounds great on a warmer amp like an old Nad or valves. I’d be wary with Arcam or Pioneer amps, especially with B&W speakers which could strip the paint from your walls.
I've an almost unused TASCAM CD-200 in the loft.
Bought as a transport
London N3
