Hi all

I'm an old-fashioned hi-fi guy - Yorkshire born & bred, living in Sunny Worcestershire.

Love my vinyl (and CDs). Started buying records in earnest in 1977 I suppose, and stopped getting them regularly when I got married in 1992 (although I've added a few to the collection since then!)

Will post some photos of my system when I get time. Just had a new CD player in August and new cartridge for the turntable at Christmas - so the house has been full of music since then! :-D

Looking forward to some geeky chat and a bit of fun on here. Looks like a good place to spend some time. I found you because I was looking to see if there was any mention of the run-out groove messages left by Porky, Bilbo Nick W et al on the net. Found this forum and thought they look like they like a good bit of banter.

Be gentle with me, I'm new. (43 years old going on 14 mentally!)

Hi!

Welcome, what is the systme your going to post photos of?

Hi Hamish. Yes it's been lovely today up here.

My system should now be embedded in my signature at the bottom of this reply all being well. Give me a couple of minutes and there should be a few pics of it up in the gallery area.

Thanks for the warm welcome, mate.

There are enough 'alternative' proclivities represented in AoS as it is! Welcome to AoS Grez. I see you have already got the measure of the humour here.

Have fun

No problem. My first name's really Graeme but I prefer to be called Grez. I only get called Graeme when I'm in trouble...

What kind of music do I like? Lots, really. Rock, pop, jazz, swing, folk, prog, songs, instrumentals, orchestral of different types. Here's a list of some of the albums kicking around by the Hi-fi at the moment:

Deacon Blue - Raintown
Albion Dance Band - Rise Up Like the Sun
Bryn Haworth - Blue and Gold
Danny Thompson - Whatever Next
Halle Orchestra - The Wasps (Vaughan Williams)
Rush - A Farewell to Kings
Oscar Peterson Trio - We Get Requests
Nick Drake - Bryter Layter
The Hellecasters - Return of the Hellecasters
Gordon Giltrap - Elegy
Clive Gregson and Christine Collister - A Change in the Weather
M People - Best Of
Gerry Rafferty - Night Owl
Uiscedwr - Circle

So pick the bones out of those. I suppose I like guitarists, but not exclusively. :)

Hi Grez, what with Garry also joining today, there's a "G G" for the Grand National weekend - I don't mean anything subliminal by that with yesterday's winner being "Don't Push It" ;)

Love the Avatar - is that your clan? I only have one of the albums you list (Night Owl) though I guess statistically that is still good - there are millions of releases out there and I only have about 3,000 of them so to share one with you is... about, ooh I don't know, the same as "Don't Push It" at 10/1! ;)

Please excuse my humour, I'm very tired (looking forward to work tomorrow for a rest - boom boom!) - welcome to AoS and have fun!

It's the closest thing Worcestershire's got to the seaside, so it'll do for me! It's only the same as calling the M6 an express route.

The bore doesn't go that far, it just gets to Gloucester, it wouldn't get past Worcester anyway , we have a wier and a lock to stop the Gloucester folk coming up stream in boats ... They don't have cars yet in Gloucester as you need 2 legs the same length to drive

Hi Alex

Thanks for the comment. The Avatar has got me and my two daughters on it. My wife doesn't like having her photo taken so we didn't go for the full 4-piece. There's a full-size copy on the photos section (The thread is called post a photo of yourself or something similar). I like playing around with photos and you'll find some trick pics on that thread too.

A Hard Day's Night is one of my favourite albums due to the fact that it's got lots of 12-string guitar work on it. Before I knew what a 12-string guitar was I just loved the sound of them, both acoustic and electric: that lovely chiming sound.

I used to go to school with loads of people from drakes broughton ... I passed out face down on a frozen playing field there once too... Completely soba of course.
I also bought my first car from the guy who worked at the garage before it was a motor bike show room...

yeah yeah, thats it... can you remember the name of the lady who used to run the place? (im guessing the person who you nearly bought it off - she lived in the house on the same plot) proper dragon she was... i was good mates with 2 of the guys who used to do saturday shifts there, i used to go and hang out there and eat all the stock... .... .... thats probably why she was such a dragon in hindsight
