Reloop turntables

I fancy getting a direct drive turntable, Reloop decks caught my eye.

The Turn 5 with ortofon 2m red fitted is at the stretch of my budget.

Any members able to advise?

I would rather buy new than used...just passed on my gl75 as I didnt have the abilities to keep it sweet.

DD's are great decks. This is my first and its very good. A different presentation but pretty solid. I would think for that money you could get better second hand. I have seen that deck in pics and it looks like a rebranded copy of a techy. I would try and stretch beyond a red tho. its not great.

Im looking for something new/plug and play/direct drive.....most of the techy clones/dj decks dont inspire me much.

How are the audio technica decks?

The reloop and the Audio Technics just look like a Technics but are not as well engineered so why not get a Technics? You can good a good used one for half what the Reloop costs, stick a better arm on it, you'll still have change and a killer deck. Rich B had a stock one with a Rega arm on it, sounded superb.


If it has to be new I'd budget a little more and get one of the new Technics, they are impressive even with the supplied tonearm.

I have to agree, a Rega arm on the Technics will be very good. Should still have a bit of change too.

I have to agree, a Rega arm on the Technics will be very good.

But unfortunately ergonomically horrible. With the cartridge at the right height, the armlifter sits too low and is awkward to use. Google photos and you'll see what I mean. I've tried this with two Rega arms.

Not a lover of rega arms. Prefer something like the 3009 with an s shape for dd's with removable shells. Much easier to work with and look better

But it's all academic what we like. It's what Tony wants

3009 mk2 imp is a great arm if set up right. It has limitations of course. It's fairly old and supposed to be used with lowish tracking forces but you can get 2 gms out of it and has worked very well with a good ortophon mc as well as most mms Ive tried.
Mine sounds superb to me and they are still in demand.

Even the basic Techie is twice my budget/then add a suitable cartridge!

See if you can find a Toshiba SR-370. It's a great TT and much better than a stock Techie and so far, cheaper too . You need to fit an arm though. SME fitting is easiest.

IMHO, the Audio Technica AT-LP5 is a fine deck and well worth considering, as some thought has actually gone into the design.

I wouldn't touch any of the other Chinese Technics clones with a barge pole.

At £360 are you sure the AT-LP5 is not made in China?

Its made by Hanpin in Taiwan. has a microphonic folded metal plinth and the arm is not removable. Sound decent for money I'm told, but its not gonna compete with proper secondhand decks imo.

It is. My point being that it’s seems to be the only one that has had a bit of thought applied to its design and execution. Sounds pretty decent, too, unlike the AT-LP120, for example!

I've read that the plinth can benefit from being fitted with some sound deadening panels, but otherwise it gets glowing reviews from the magazines and audio (and AV) fora.

However if your read user feedback on Amazon one or two people have had poor samples, displaying unacceptable wow and flutter and noisy motors. Probably a 'Friday afternoon' effect, but does show the quality control is not as thorough as it might be.

I would pass on the Reloop for sure. Had a play with one and the plinth is as microphonic as heck, one light tap comes through the speakers.

The Reloop didn't go down so well in the latest Hi-Fi World. The dreaded 'cogging' was evident.

The Audio Technica is a better bet but best is a vintage Technics, if you want DD.
