OK Chaps, looking for all your very favorite one hit wonders.

They can either be groups or artists which produced either one stellar album or just one single before vanishing forever.

Just to open the batting, my two offerings are:

One-hit album: Staring At The Sun by The Seahorses

One-hit song: Echo Beach by Martha and the Muffins

Actually, same goes for the Animotion track (blinder, btw Steve) - seriously, WTF is all that centurion sh!t?

...and that Karal Fialka... seriously, I hope they did police checks on him before they made that video

1978: 12 weeks in the charts / highest position at number 19
Up to then the biggest charting single for the Beggars Banquet label
Banned by everyone - even the workers in the pressing plant refused to handle the original picture sleeve which was replaced by the one above

I keep seeing XTC on one hit wonder shows.... it makes me furious!

The song they pick out (from their 20 or so singles, many of which were minor hits, and a couple of major ones) is Dear God, which wasn't even a single, it was a B Side! GRRR!

Top 100?
Top 75?
Top 40?
Top 20?
........Number one?

I would have thought that if you have more than one hit in the top 40, you don't qualify as a one hit wonder...

but anyway... do any of you like Nik Turner's Sphynx Xitintoday? I've heard it's out on CD now, does anyone have it? is the sound any good? I have a vinyl copy in 'average' nick

I've been brought up on Hawkwind, they were me dad's favourite band, he had EVERYTHING by them, bar one compilation (greasy truckers party) that he searched for in vain for years....

I saw them on the Alien 4 tour, only Dave Brock really, I think Alan Davey was on the album, but I don't think he was at the gig. The band were sloppy and wasted, and this young punky idiot (Ron Tree) was singing most of the songs.... really badly.
Lets just say it's put me off seeing them again, I've had plenty of opportunities over the years.
Still love the band though, I honestly don't think they really did a bad album until the 90s, and even some of those were pretty good. (Distant Horizons, Electric Tepee)
