The Album Club choice for September comes courtesy of Martin (highspirits) with Walter Wolfman's 'Sada'. As always, please listen to the album in its entirety before you comment and/or vote.

My choice for this month is Walter Wolfman Washington’s Sada. He was an unknown artist to me and may be new to you.

I first listened to this LP in a HiFi shop holding a vinyl day and was attracted to his vocals, guitar and brass arrangement.

Washington was born in New Orleans, December 21, 1943. Whilst still in his teens, he was invited to play in Lee Dorsey's band.
In the mid 1960s, Washington formed the All Fools Band, and played at clubs in New Orleans.
In the 1970s, he joined Johnny Adams' band. He played with Adams for 20 years, both performing live and also appearing on his records. During this time he continued to work as a solo artist, and in the late 1970s formed his own band, the Roadmasters, and toured Europe with them.

Washington released his first solo album Rainin' In My Life in 1981 from a small local label Help Me. He landed a contract with Rounder Records in the mid 1980s and he released total of three albums from the label. After the Rounder days, he also released an album from Virgin subsidiary Point Blank Records.

Listening
Typical of me to choose an album that does not appear on Spotify or YouTube. I have listed the tracks that I can find and it gives a good idea of the album.

I've had a couple of listens to this now and I rather like it. There a shades of Curtis Mayfield that I really like along with an almost Wigan Pier All nighter feel. It's always good to hear talented musicians enjoying playing. 8/10 from me.

Just had a search on Tidal and couldn’t find the album you mentioned (not surprising if it’s not on spotify) but am now listening to to another album by Wolfman “my future is my past” and it’s blues at it’s best. What a voice! Having never heard Wolfman before I’m looking forward to trawling through the links you posted. Great choice and thanks.

I'm glad those that have listened so far have enjoyed the Wolfman.

That's the great thing about the album club, listening to music and artists not listened to before.

In the early nineties Virgin brought out the Pointblank (one word) label with a sampler called "We're Not Jivin', We're Jammin" by various artists which I bought on a whim. It contains two tracks from "Sada" which led me to buy the album itself which I play regularly.
