Wanted small magnet 8" Audax bextrene bass unit HD 20 B 25 J

Hi, I am looking for a single replacement 8" Audax bass unit as used in the Tangent RS range of speakers.
I have a slight voice coil rub at a certain frequency that the old trick of rotating the speaker by 180 degrees has not cured.

I have two pairs of RS4's, one pair has the small magnet Audax, other pair has the large magnet Audax. I also have two pairs of RS2's, both have the small magnet Audax.

A possible upgrade might be to fit the Dalesford 8" Bextrene bass unit. In my view, the KEF B200, as used in the TM series is inferior to both the Audax and the Dalesford units.

Hi, so I take it you don't have any spares to offer then?
The large magnet "H" version seems to come up from time to time, but I have been looking for months and not seen any small magnet "J" versions.

I have two pairs of RS4's, one pair has the small magnet Audax, other pair has the large magnet Audax. I also have two pairs of RS2's, both have the small magnet Audax.

Do both your pairs of RS4 sound the same? As I understand it the difference between the H and the J versions of the bass unit is the efficiency, so I am guessing the crossovers must differ slightly to account for this.

Also you might well find a slight difference to the internal bracing too. I actually have a spare pair of the H (large magnet version) bass units and tried to fit one as an experiment. The bracing member is meant to have conctact with the rear of the bass unit magnet. But when using the larger magnet bass unit the magnet fouls the bracing member (due to increased depth) and makes it difficult to get an air tight seal. So a little woodwork would be necessary as well as work to the crossover. So that's why I'm holding out for a spare small magnet "J" version.

Too confuse the situation further, there are both 2 layer and four layer voice coil versions of the Audax.

My pairs of RS4's are in different houses, so difficult to compare, I suspect, though not sure, that the crossovers are the same.

Thanks, I didn't know about that technique, and it may be useful in the future. But I'm pretty sure my problem here is too much power, when in the hands of the previous owner. I've already had to rebuild the crossover (burned out resistor in the tweeter circuit) and replace the tweeter (distorted). I think it's likely the bass unit voice coil has got too hot and is slightly malformed. Ah well. For some reason the other speaker escaped unscathed.
