Afternoon all,

I've currently ordered an 8000p which won't delivered until next week. I've now had time to think and wonder if buying two 8000m monoblocs instead of the stereo power amp, 8000p, would be better ? Was thinking long term, well a year, i would wish i had gone for the 8000m's and want to sell the 8000p.
By the way, the wife thinks i'm mad !!! (about the stereo, not in general...i think !!)

Back in the Audiolab Huntingdon days, the M's were always better if you could afford the difference.

Hope this helps...

I got rid of my 8000M's just before last Christmas. They are really good amps. Each amp weighs in at around 10kg and is very well made with a good, solid feel. The sound is a bit 'in yer face' being really good for a party. They are not particularly refined and not overly delicate. The bass has a serious thwack to it and the treble is very finely etched. Like I said, great for a party.

Thats interesting. I'm probably going to hold off and see how i get with the 8000p. Spending £600 would be hard justify i think.

Anyone else with any thoughts ? when i think i'll go for the 8000p i think i'll push it and go for the 8000m !
How would i connect the 8000s to the 8000m ? Would i need two interconnect cables ? Then to plug it to the CD wiuld that mean 3 interconnect cables ?

Don't forget you need 2 8000Ms - 1 for each channel (left & right ;)) - I believe you will just need a single run of an RCA (phono) cable from the pre to each Monoblock.

Now I'm worried...

The whole thing about the 8000S was the switchable mode thingy so you could split the pre and power section. To use an 8000S with ANY external power amp(s) and a CD player, you'll need two stereo-pair interconnects, one pair from CD player to the CD input on the "S" and the other pair from preamp-out on the 8000S to the 8000P or each 8000M.

Sorry, not sure i'm making sense !

I know i would need two 8000m's as they are mono.

What i mean is, to connect the 8000s (Switch to pre/power) to both 8000m's, would i need two interconnects ?

Then when the CD player is connected to the 8000s that would be another interconnect.

Is that a bit better ?

So basically, will one interconnect cable connect 3 boxes, the 8000s, 8000m and other 8000m ? If so, how ?

Sorry guys !!

Yes - left Pre-output (1/2 an RCA, the black or white half probably ;)) to left mono block, the other half (red, usually) to the other mono block...

There is only one rca input on an 8000m:

(The clue is the word "Input" :))

You'll still need normal stereo pairs to connect sources to the pre-amp.

So i'm correct in saying one interconnect cable will connect the two 8000m's to the 8000s ?
Sorry, i'm confusing myself here
